Just looked them up.

Biggest movies for the year were Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, The Color Purple, Blood Simple, The Goonies, Ran, Brazil, Fletch, and St. Elmo’s Fire.

Not as strong as most of the years mentioned.

I knew they were close in time, but I didn’t realize Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s came out the same year, with Emilio, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Hirsch playing high schoolers in the Chicago suburbs and recent Georgetown grads within months lol.

Outlaw Josey Wales

Bad News Bears
Logan's run
The Omen
Oz
Silver Streak
King Kong

My apologies to the OP, but I just can't pick from those
Great list, and some others I would have trouble not including were left out.

Network
All the Presiden'ts Men
Marathon Man
The Shootist

The 70's was a great time for movie making!

I love The Sand Pebbles and El Dorado.

I also love these from 1966.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
A Man for All Seasons

Alfie was a really good vehicle for Michael Caine.
As a kid, I liked Django a lot. It's a gritty take on the west.

Definitely. I’m one of the 5 or 6 youngest people in this thread, and I’m in my mid-30s.

NBC's Thursday night lineup:

"Night Court"
"Hill Street Blues."

And the movies: (no fancy stuff, or award winners...just the classics)

Beverly Hills Cop
The Karate Kid
Sixteen Candles
Police Academy
Romancing the Stone

And well, I guess I'm in the sweetspot for nostalgia in 1984:

Halfway to adulthood, halfway back to nothing.

These from 1978 are great movies to me.

The Last Waltz
Heaven Can Wait
Animal House
The Boys from Brazil
The Buddy Holly Story

1978 had something for everyone.

Midnight Express is an opportunity for scaring someone straight.

Halloween for the horror fans

The Deer Hunter for people who like ridiculously long movies.

Grease for people who like musicals.

Drunken Master for the kung fu fans.

Convoy for CB radio and trucker fans.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and FM for the music fans.

Goin' South for fans of westerns.

Pretty Baby for pedophiles, Brooke Shields, and Susan Sarandon fans.

Every Which Way but Loose for orangutan fans.
