I'll go with The Godfather as favorite, although there's probably close to 10 others from that list I could choose.

Least favorite: Inception

Movie was changed so much from the story in the book especially the ending that I got up and walked out of the movie theater before the movie was over.

No you didn't.

Well, the movie was like 8 hours long, so maybe he did?

Least favorite: Probably A New Hope

Favorite: Tough... Can't decide between Fight Club and Inception

And I have no idea how all three Lord of the Rings movies are on there. That's just remarkably silly.

I love the LOTR movies, but I agree.

Yeah, I just don't get it. It's certainly well made and a high quality film but he out-pouring of love confuses the heck out of me. I mean it's good, but certainly not great.

And I think that's the issue. Is Shawshank the very best "good enough" film of all time? It's so mediocre that you can never say anything bad about it? It takes so few chances that everyone just "likes it enough" to never dislike it?

I don't know how else to say it. To find flaws you have to get picky, but I also can't point out anything really amazing about it.

It takes no chances, offends no one, and is a story about redemption. What better mix for audience enthusiasm?

Such a weird film.

Favorite - Pulp Fiction, godfather movies

Least Favorite - Lord of the Rings movies... also wasn't crazy for seven samurai

haven't seen - schindler's list, 12 angry men, one flew over the cuckoo's nest... and I haven't seen the star wars movies since I was like 10 so I don't think I can analyze those

Glad we can agree on something today

Exactly, though. It's good. I like it a lot. The escape scene is great. The redemption is sweet. But I've seen 30-50 better movies.

I think its the very best "everyone has similar, high opinions of this movie" movie, which has put it to the top. There's nothing really to dislike about it, but, as you said, nothing really amazing about it.

Favorite: Fight Club. I was a huge Chuck Palahniuk fan, and it was so thrilling to see an important "underground" novel get near perfect treatment on the big screen. It's right up there with Trainspotting on near perfect adaptations of works thought to be unadaptable. I've gotten over the fact a lot of people like it for the "wrong" reasons. Y'all realize the film is making FUN of Tyler Durden, right?

Least: I don't know, I don't really hate any of the top 20. The LOTR movies are overrated and indistinguishable, but they were at least epic events. I guess I'll go against the grain and say Cuckoo's Nest. I'm not entirely comfortable with how the film pretty much fully endorses Jack Nicholson's viewpoint... you know what? Perhaps mentally fragile kids shouldn't be exposed to sex, booze, and drugs. The film wants to entirely blame Nurse Ratchet for everything, and she is awful, but it's not all The system's fault. Some of it is on Jack, too. And the film never takes that viewpoint seriously, that maybe some societal norms have a value.
