The only thing that could remotely be considered woke in this movie was the female silver surfer. But that took absolutely nothing away from me the movie. In fact, it brought kind of a funny element between her and Johnny. You had Johnny horning over her the entire movie. Which is completely anti-Woke lol.

Agree. Not sure why there's 8 pages in this thread fussing over it

Just got out. Liked it a lot. But I do agree that the lack of action and overly edited third act will keep the box office down and hurts the overall product. I did like Superman more and think it’s the superior movie tho so that might also hurt its box office
But the first two acts are so good that it didn’t hurt the movie overall for me. But I do think they’ll need to beef up the action in the second one after Secret Wars

I think the main reasons are,
1. Disney
2. Pedro Pascal
3. Female Silver Surfer
Those three facts about the movie. Some people just cannot and will not get over those things. Even though everything they consider negative about those things has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. And the third one I feel enhanced it a little bit.
Sometimes I wonder what those people feel about Tom Cruise movies. Or do they care about anything Tom Cruise has done in his personal life. Or what organizations he has associated with. Even been in control of. I don’t know. Me personally, I just love Top Gun Maverick and don’t really think beyond that.

We saw it this morning, it was a good hero flick. Just wish they had cast pretty much anyone else as Mr. Fantastic, he was flat and boring.
Female silver surfer didn’t bother me.

In the past decade or so,Tom has only ever been outspoken when it comes to:
- doing what it takes to get projects done during Covid
- thanking the paying customers who have come out to theaters via a thank you vid before the movie plays.
I've not seen him promote a political party, candidate, or cause. I'd have to go looking to see his views on Russia, Israel or immigration. Whatever one thinks of his 'religion' how he lives his life and its effect it has on his craft in making movies, related or not, he's objectively a great spokesperson for Hollywood. And unfortunately he has very few joining him in his endeavor.

You should watch a Scientology documentary.

I'm not unfamiliar. I've seen some of the show with Leah Remini. Overall, not a fan of the cult stuff.
But specific to TOM CRUISE, we've not heard very much regarding his off screen antics when it comes to 'social issues'.

So your hate is only specific to what you feel affects you? Is that what you’re saying? That’s kind of what I figured. It’s just interesting.

When did I ever say that? Oh, I never did.
What do you even care?
Weird response.

Oh, OK. So you don’t hate Pedro Pascal? My bad. Your dislike.

Let the record show that I'm not the one hijacking the thread.
I will refuse to respond to such troll posts from here on out.
Carry on.

You’re in a thread that has spoilers for a movie that you haven’t even seen lol.
quote:it is so funny that you think this is somehow a negative thing against me lol. I don’t even like Pedro Pascal. He’s OK. But even if I “disliked him a lot”, I guess is what you want me to say, I wouldn’t let it affect my view of this movie. And I love Tom Cruise.

I enjoyed the flick.
Sorry for those that wanted a naked dude as the silver surfer.
Instead you get a sexy chick.

I think Pascal was good but not great as Reed but I think part of that perception is because of how awesome Kirby, Quinn and Ebon were as Susan, Johnny and Ben. Perfect.
Pedro can grow into it. It took Evans until Winter Soldier before I stopped shitting on him and started truly seeing him as Cap

I don't want to make this thread go off the rails, but is the silver surfer girl a different character or was it a pure gender swap?

It’s simply a poor choice for the introduction of the Fantastic Four into this latest run. Yes, there technically was for a short run, a female silver surfer. But just because something did appear in the comics doesn’t mean it’s a great idea to start off your new universe, as was done here.
Similar to Star Wars, those making comic book based movies simply want to run out the clock so that those who grew up reading the original versions of these characters will basically die off and then they can start all over with whatever the hell they want to do.
Because the modern writers of these movies don’t have a bit of interest in paying respect to the original characters and they sure as hell aren’t talented enough to progress a good story into the next chapter.
