I was looking forward to this with the family when I saw it on Netflix. Short round was pretty good in it. The movie itself is highly overrated imo.

I wanted to like it. It had loads of potential. I just thought it was meh. 4/10.

It’s a trash movie. Honestly I’m not sure why it was up for so many awards.

Great movie.

Even better on the second watch.

I can’t see myself watching it for a second time. 2+ hours of that again? No thanks.

It looked great on screen, but we watched after a heavy holiday meal
and couldn’t stay awake. Jamie Lee Curtis was great as the IRS agent, though.

I thought it was alright. It fails on many levels and does other things extremely well.

I think it won for being inspirational for being an “original movie” that was widely liked.

At the same time, it’s just a remake of The Matrix

I have seen it twice and enjoyed it both times. It had the right mix of funny, smart, touching, weird for me. That being said I'm not sure anyone else in my family liked it so to each his own.

I was kinda surprised it swept the Oscars but looking at last year's movies that were nominated it was this or Banshees of Inisherin for me. Top Gun was also great but wasn't going to win Oscars.

This movie does the multiverse far better than any other movie. It’s the first sci-fi movie to win Best Picture. Long overdue for the genre. At its core, it’s a family dysfunction drama on psychedelic steroids. It creates original, strong female characters without bashing us over the head and without making the primary male character weak or pushed aside. It has a lot to say about marriage, commitment, and parenting. It’s pretty brilliant. I think its stature is only going to grow; the Academy got it right.

I loved that movie. I’ve seen it probably 5-6 times.

I enjoyed the movie well enough but there’s no denying the two dudes who made this movie love the smell of their farts.

Everywhere vs. Nomadland vs. Moonlight vs. The Artist vs. Birdman vs. Crash.

Some pretty bad Oscar winners of late.

Are you serious? I enjoy watching the Oscars.
Are you under the impression that movies such A Beautiful Mind, American Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, Titanic, The English Patient (that's 3 in a row), Dances with Wolves, Driving Miss Daisy, Platoon, Out of Africa, Terms of Endearment, Chariots of Fire, and Ordinary People were the best movies of the respective years in which they were released?

I think you'd be insane to think so. And if you look at the 1960s-1930s, it only looks worse.

For all the current problems with the recent Academy awards, we at least get some variety in the winners, like with Parasite. You may not like Everything Everywhere (and I don't really like it either), but it is unique amongst Best Picture Winners.

The last few years have been trash for the Academy. Nomadland won by default due to a lack of options, CODA was fun but hardly worthy, and Everything Everywhere All At Once was just loud noise.

I think the problem is that while most of the films you listed may not have been the best of their respective years, they were mostly still worthy winners.

- A Beautiful Mind should not have beaten Fellowship of the Ring, but it's still a solid movie that I will stop to watch when I see it on television. Brilliant acting from Crowe.

- American Beauty is similar. It's definitely not better than The Green Mile or The Sixth Sense but it still has tremendous rewatchability, is darkly funny, and features three brilliant performances from Bening, Spacey, and Chris Cooper.

- Shakespeare in Love was not better than Saving Private Ryan but is a fun crowd pleaser that has tremendous replay value. Geoffrey Rush and Tom Wilkinson are both hilarious in it.

- Titanic is an awesome film from an awesome year. Between it, Good Will Hunting, and L.A. Confidential I would have been fine with either of those films winning Best Picture. As Good As it Gets and The Full Monty were also worthy nominees in their own right.
