Real history behind the mythology is superior to whatever the hell this Hollywood slop claims.

It’s not all a fantasy.

This is the main failure, the missed opportunity and all of the creative avenues something like this offers for someone like a Nolan. But this movie was made with specific agendas in mind so the source material or anything that could’ve enhanced the source material had to be discarded.

Emily Wilson, whose translation of The Odyssey is itself unfaithful, critiques Christopher Nolan’s adaptation for emphasizing Odysseus’ “shame” over heroic “glory,” calling it a modern psychiatric revision of the character.

Like this agenda?

So Odysseus wanting to have honor and valor instead of pure bloodlust in war, exactly what “agenda” is that?

He in no way was some pacifist, he was a hunter and warrior who believed in fair chase and honor amongst men. That’s hardly an “agenda”

And I’m not sure how this is anything new in interpretations of Greeks. Look at Troy, Achilles was the same way. He was never going to take the “easy” way of killing someone.

Nobody obsesses over The Odyssey quite like the people that haven’t watched it.

Odysseus is not a modern hero.

And hasn't been for centuries.

In his famous work, Inferno, Dante put Odysseus in the Eighth Circle of Hell for the deceit of the Trojan Horse, the theft of the Palladium, and for tricking Achilles into the war.

Willfully obtuse, I see... Let's start with an ugly black chick playing "the most beautiful Greek woman in the world" as well as some Zipper-tittied Frankendong playing a "guy".... better yet, a 5' 90lb zipper tittied Frankendong playing a male "warrior". If that's not "woke" then it's pure, unabashed dumbassery. "But it's muh fiction"... then I suppose you'd have no issues with Odysseus whipping out his iphone and filming TikTok videos while the cyclops sleeps? And we all know you dolts would have run any light skinned actress out of Hollywood that was cast as an African character.

All that and you just could have said “I don’t understand what a theme is.”

You getting triggered by casting doesn't mean something is woke.

The column A column B comparison from Homer’s to Nolan’s feminist DEI trash shows that some will accept a cockroach or two in a meal if it’s from a fashionable restaurant.

This movie is not remotely any of these things at all. It is VERY far from Feminist, which is why Emily WIlson doesn't like it, hence this thread.

But of course, you haven't seen the movie

That's not an "agenda"

Nolan shifts the movie from a pagan lense to a Catholic one, something personal to him.

Instead of Odysseus being obsessed with glory and then having to deal with letting that go, he instead focuses on him having to come to terms with his guilt and shame over the slaughter of thousands of people and innocents. and he himself having the idea to subvert the gods and use a gift from them to effect that slaughter.

There's no "hidden" agenda at all, its just a thematic element of the film, and it works great within the story.

If, of course, you'd seen it

Its funny. Emily Wilson is a FLAMING liberal that used her translation to make it more in line with her worldview.

She doesn't even hide it AT ALL in her forward to the translation. Which is why all the academics right now love it.

And these people are using HER of all people for their attacks. Its funny as frick

Sure. If she is cast as Achilles, I hate it. Even though Achilles is a minor role this would probably be the only thing I can think of that would make me not see this in theatres.

How so? Even the actresses, praise it for its feminist perspective. It’s overly derived from a feminist translation. What are you not getting about this?
