If reviews look good, I may see it early next week.

I’m sure it’s good. I just can’t find any want to go see it. Biopics in general are boring and we’ve had to many singer ones over the past few years.

Dewey Cox is great though.

Ok. Are movies able to really extrapolate what made them great? Haven’t seen one successfully do it yet.

Maybe X and/or Ghandi did this but that is about it. Most biopics only work because the subject lived through a very exciting historical moment like Our Darkest Hour and Patton. The lives of Elton John and Freddy Mercury just aren't that interesting. Hell Great Balls Of Fire wasn't either and that's the frickin' Killer. Did they have a seen w/ Elvis meeting the Beatles and Elvis and Lennon singing to each other down the hotel hallway?

Lincoln and Patton both did pretty damn good jobs at that.

Disagree. They were interesting men living through extraordinary times. You don't get a feel for what made them great especially in Patton. Patton's counter attack at the Battle of the Bulge was his great achievement but the movie doesn't give many details on it.

Musical biopics are extremely formulaic...across the board but they can be very fun like Walk the Line.

You're really going to see the performances...

In between there's just...

1. Bad childhood or struggles
2. Talent then discovered
3. Fame
4. Lots of drugs
5. Tragedy

I wish they did a second movie on Cash. It should be his later days with American records then ended with hurt.

Do you think a 9 year old could see it? My daughter really wants to see it but thought it might be a little rough with drug usage, etc.

Should be fine tbh. He quickly pops a few pills thru the film and there's not a single curse word in the movie from what I remember. It was pretty entertaining especially the Memphis pieces

Because the movie had already established what made him great: his love of war. The scene prior to the Battle of the Bulge sequence pretty much lays his character out for all the world to see:

"I love it more than my life."

Elvis dropped quite a few GD’s. I only remember it because I thought he sounded a lot like Hank Hill when he said it

Besides that, it should be fine for your 9 year old. Doesn’t show much drug usage at all. IIRC the only time it shows him taking pills was one brief scene and it was as casual as someone taking ibuprofen

I’ve listened to all four of the Beatles recount that story and pretty much the most incredible thing they all took away from the exchange was that Elvis had a remote for his tv.

The start was too chaotic for me. Just the way it was shot. Felt like a cartoon and musical at times. With Hanks narrating as the Colonel.

The middle and end make up,for it. Did not know that the 68 Christmas special was supposed to be a sweater wearing fireplace cheese fest. Old carols etc and he turned it into something else. Wonder how true that was?

The editing of the end was perfect IMO.

Great movie. Screenplay and directing was a bit different, but made Elvis even cooler for the younger generation.

Really good movie

It’s a biopic w/ a hint of ‘Moulin Rogue’ vibe
