In a recent profile in WSJ Magazine, the Charlie’s Angels writer/director/star responded to the criticism she’s been facing for rebooting the franchise with Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott. “You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!” Banks says. “I think women are allowed to have one or two action franchises every 17 years — I feel totally fine with that.”

And as a result of this box office bomb of hers, it'll probably be 17 years before another female-centric action franchise comes around.

She’s not wrong. But she miscast this one.

If she had put out a great film, no one would care that it’s a reboot of a reboot.

Hell, we bitched when they rushed out bad Spider-Man sequels as well.

Maybe if the women were actually good actors and attractive. I mean Kristen Stewart, for real? How is she still getting work? Other than name recognition, which did nothing for this film.

I read an article saying that the original wishlist for the studio was Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Margot Robbie. The script wasn't good enough to attract them so they had to settle for Kristen Stewart and a pair of relatively unknown actresses.

Had they managed to snag Lawrence, Stone, and Robbie....I might have gone to see it.

The last 3 Spider-Man movies have all been very good. The last 2 especially.

ETA: plus they’re part of a very easy to digest and fun greater universe and they were perfectly cast. Dumb comparison.

What a lie this is. Ghost Busters, Star Wars, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Terminator, Harley Quinn, etc.

Thats an all white cast. I doubt they would've done that. They have to throw in a POC these days.

I've heard it's a pretty enjoyable film. The marketing was just awful. The trailers did not sell the film.

well maybe if she didnt take the hot sexy women out of the movie thats just about hot sexy women, and then made it about SJW preaching then maybe people would go see it

if you remake the movie jaws and take out the shark and replace it with a bad tempered barracuda, see how many people will go watch it

Elizabeth, I found your problem. One anti-draw and two actresses I had never heard of. Yeah, that's not how you draw an audience.

Yes I was.

But I don't remember hearing anything about "ruining the franchise." Most people just thought it looked shitty.

Anyway, there is no franchise. The previous movies sucked.

I like EB, but I just don't think she was set up to win with this one.

Why is she comparing comic book characters to a movie and tv series

I wouldn’t mind an action film but the cast is atrocious
