Same.

Like John Wick, it seemed to get a lot more notice and renown after it was released on video. I remember radio DJ's and others talking about "the movie Tom Cruise dies a hundred times" after the video release, not the theatrical release.

Good movie, just marketed horribly like people mentioned.

They should have marketed it as sort of like a video game movie, since that's basically what it was.

I've been wanting to rewatch this one lately. It's been a few years since I've seen it, and I don't really remember a lot about the lat act. But I remember really liking it when I first saw it.

They could have done better by cutting back on the number of resets they would show in full. It takes them too long to have him start making it further.

Blunt has never been hotter that she was in this film with that lean muscle.

Anyway. Edge of Tomorrow has a lot of rewatch value in it. Just a fun film.

I think it felt more real this way. If it was too easy, then it would come across as cheap. He has to earn his way. He has to develop. And plans change multiple times. That journey is the whole point of the movie.

The title does not really fit the actual movie.

Sure it does. A day keeps repeating. Which day of the week is tomorrow; can you find it on a calendar?

Tomorrow never comes. It's always just a day away (Annie taught us that).

How do you market an actual FPS? IIRC Scott pilgrim had a similar terrible marketing campaign and it was a fighting game.

Haha. I watched it when it was on Netflix, maybe it still is on there.

It was pretty good.

That Haley Bennett is in it, and she is not ugly.

For whatever reason I see the title "Edge of Tomorrow" and the Dennis Quaid environmental polar vortex movie comes to mind.

Just checked as of this conversation it’s only available for rental. However Decider has known to be wrong from time to time.

While this is true, I don't think it was used judiciously enough in the 1st half of the movie or so, i haven't watched in a couple years. You lose a sense of progress in the plot, which is one reason some of my friends didn't end up sitting through it till the end.

I really enjoyed the movie, but they could have made it feel real / earned while also helping to show a sense of progress through the first half or first third, etc.

If you aren't in the theaters it is easy to lose people who are just flipping through. If it had been a big success in theaters / marketing, this wouldn't have been an issue because the movie would have had some trust earned by the viewership.

I thought the opposite. They had to do this in order to build the true tedium and context of the usage montage, and how many times he failed off screen in order to just get a little bit further.

Also adds to the tension at the end when there are no more resets.

I don't mean they shouldn't have done it, just that it could have been done a little more judiciously to help keep other viewers attentions and keep them in the movie. Instead of dying like 25 - 30 times on screen it may have helped with the flow it he had died like 20 - 25 times.

I'd need to re-watch and sort of see sort of where it is set out - I could be mistaken about how long it took to start to get some traction and progress.

I was googling to try and see if I could figure out when he saved Rita the first time - but noticed there are rumors of an Edge of Tomorrow 2 to be in the works.

*SPOILERS*

I rewatched today. He dies multiple times simply when he’s trying to survive. You maybe see only 3 or 4 on screen. It never plays all the way through except twice. Then he dies multiple times after meeting Rita and in training. Then he has the vision and they start focusing on getting off the beach. This is already at the halfway point of the movie. He fails so often at the beach that he begins to doubt the mission on top of gaining feelings for Rita. It’s then when he goes on without her that he realizes the omegas deception. He has to die a few more times to get to the general for the device that tells him where it really is until finally he’s caught and there’s a 12 hour window to save the world.

Again, all the dying and resets are essential to the plot because that’s his journey. None of it felt unnecessary to me.
