I don't think this is universal, but I found Dune Part 1 to be significantly better than Part 2. Both are great, but part 2 had some long boring stretches with the Freman and the final battle was underwhelming. Also, most of Javier Bardem's role and a lot of Austin Butler's come off as silly on rewatch. Again, both great, I just fine Part 1 more rewatchable. Both are now streaming on Netflix, which brought this to mind.

Agree with your assessment of Bardem in pt 2, but hard disagree on Butler. I thought he nailed that role.

Butler was light years better than Sting.

Agree 100%. I was hoping Dune Prophecy would be similar, but it really pales in comparison. The Atreides water planet, the bat-shite Harkonen planet, the Sardukai planet and the gamesmandship was awesome and then we ventured out into the desert w/ the worms. Dune II was too much desert and Fremen. Apologize about spelling. Both great movies though.

hot take that will piss people off. I like the Toto score more than Zimmer. I love most of Zimmer's career but I couldn't hum a single bit of his Dune score from memory. I've seen both movies at least 3 times and nothing sticks out. Not that is is bad, it just doesn't grab me like most of his recent scores. Hell, I listen to Interstellar and Inception all of the time.

Sure, Toto is pure 80s cheese but I love it.

I still like the '84 version better. I will likely rewatch it multiple times in the future. I cannot see me watching either of the new ones ever again.

To me it's one movie just split in two parts so I like them both equally.

The movies are great, but with every rewatch I start to hate Zendeya more and more and it kinda decreases my joy/excitement about watching.

LotR is truly the goat in regards to non meaning BS ugly drama filled women.

I enjoyed both quite a bit. I lean more towards Part 1 because I really liked some of the folks in the Atreides household (Duke Leto who I thought was played really well by Oscar Isaac) that we don't see for obvious reasons in Part 2.

That said, Austin Butler was pretty fantastic as Feyd-Rautha. He was sufficiently creepy as frick.

The're both bad. But part 2 isn't even watchable. Austin Butler was absolutely ridiculous. Terrible film.

I didn't care for Chani's attitude at the end of 2.

Why is it that in that 70s-80s era of sci-fi, future clothes always had to look uncomfortable as frick?

I had a blast watching the Lynch movie even though it’s a complete mess.

The new movies are visually impressive and objectively better films overall but I didn’t enjoy them as much.

Personally I think they’re a single six hour long film like Lord of the Rings is a single 12 hour long film and not really a trilogy. It’s just too long to be profitable and sit for one setting.
