SPOILERS FOR DUNE: MESSIAH

If I recall correctly, it ends with Paul going blind and going off into the desert to die, right?

Not exactly the happy ending of Return of the Jedi or Return of the King. It will be super interesting if they keep that (I'm sure they will), and how audiences will receive such an ending.

Also...Dune gets even WAY weirder as I recall, so they will have to reign that in a little bit.

Thoughts on the adaptation of Messiah (many of you remember it way better than me I am sure)

Paul comes back in Children of Dune. Atia gets possessed by the Baron, her grandfather, in it too.

I don't think they get real weird until after Children of Dune

But I don’t think you can end on Children of Dune, so making it is committing to getting real weird in God Emperor.

I don't think DV and the cast will go beyond Messiah, at least not any time soon.

Yes, he is attacked by assassins and goes blind. He volunteers to fulfill the prophecy to return his body to the desert so the Furman will support his children.

I always though there was a parallel with Christianity and Jesus' sacrifice. Paul sacrifices himself for the love of his family. So the end of Paul's story is not like Luke Skywalker, but from the perspective of a Messiah, he ultimately proves to the Furman that he is the Messiah because of how he chose to end his life. He was going to die anyway.

I told my friend on Saturday that I could see this like the Chronicles of Narnia reboot, where the first 2 get investment and then by the 3rd (Children of Dune, in this instance), they will get a lesser director, budget, actors, etc.

WB will try to milk it for sure. They have a spin-off show, Dune: Prophecy, planned for Max later this year about the origins of the Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the movie. If I’m not mistaken, it’s based on one of the son’s novels.

Beware the Stone Burner

But this is why they either need to make Children of Dune into a movie also, or do like the Sci Fi channel did and make Messiah and Children into one film. Messiah is a small enough book that it could be woven into Children.

as long as they stop before the whole “sand trout” stuff, I’m good. That’s as far as I got with the books…they just get more ridiculous after that

Messiah gets weird to a point. Children of Dune gets worse. God Emperor of Dune is when you start shotgunning LSD with regards to weird.

To be honest, I think the prequel books ,
House Atredies, Harkonnen, Corrino ( respectively ) would be a great ( better) film trilogy.

This is because it gives so much backstory to the atredies and harkonnen rivalry and much more depth about “ known universe “ , spacing guild, Planet Ix , landsraad.

Sort of like how they went back and made the Hobbit trilogy. After LOTR.

I enjoyed the prequels more than childern of dune. And dune messiah. Couldn’t finish god emperor.

If you love Dune book 1 , I highly recommend reading the prequels.

I want to see how they handle the Bene Gesserit's sexual manipulation powers. Perfect opportunity for some virtue signaling. We'll see.

Messiah is the natural stopping point for mainstream film. You can't really adapt anything beyond it to a major motion picture.

Messiah would be a perfect conclusion to the story of Paul. When he says "take them to paradise" he is showing his intent to unleash the jihad on the universe.

The final movie could show his jihad, the plot to kill him, face dancers, stone burners, and his final walk into the desert. IT would be amazing.

They dont really get into that in Messiah. Now in GEOD and his fish speakers are a different animal completely.

Pauls son, Leto II, goes into the spice trance to see his golden path for humanity and part of that is to be able to live for thousands of years. he puts on the sand trout and becomes a worm of sorts to do that at the end of Children of Dune.
