Yeah, the racial thing doesn't have nearly the impact on the people watching this show as it probably had in the 1920's.

I agree, in fact I found myself a little put off by Mr. Carson's level of shock at the presence of a black man at Downton, when I normally find his stuck in the old ways mindset amusing. I see why they went there, it fits the general formula of what Downton does well, but I think this is just such a charged issue it can't be handled in an enjoyable way.

it looks like they almost went down the rape road again with james and that girl.

They're desperate for staff storylines without OBrien stirring the pot. I think her not renewing her contract caught them a little bit off guard. It really is a shame that the business side of things has affected the storylines so much.

After last night's episode, they seem to be moving in an more interesting direction with some of the story lines. For the first time, this season, I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I missed Edith being pregnant, not paying nearly the attention I did in prior seasons.

Was Mathew leaving the Downton Abbey Shark Jump?

They may need to bring in another writer, hell why not get Mary and Tom together, then they could both stop being such sticks in the mud.

They haven't been very upfront with it, lots of implications, very little direct reference. The only actual confirmation was a letter from the doctor that said she was in her first trimester, and I had to rewind the DVR and pause it to confirm

Mary looks like she's about to have 3 suitors at the same time. They should have made Tom throw himself into his work and become an asset to the family rather than brooding and feeling like an outsider. That's where they were headed until he lost his BFF of 6 months in Matthew.

What's Barrow's connection to the new maid? I forget her name. She's Lady Crawley's gal.

That is what I am wondering. He seems to have some dirt on her or something.

Seems like he knows something about her before she arrived at Downton

Definitely seems that he's got a hold on her somehow. She seems to want to resist his dirty work, but can't for some reason, so he must have something on her. I thought maybe it was shown and I missed it.

Barrow got her the job IIRC. What she doesn't seem to realize is that Cora likes her so much Barrow probably couldn't do much to get her sacked now.

I don't know. Cora told her to keep a secret and if she finds out Baxter reveals it, I think Cora might dump her. We'll see, though.

I'm surprised the downstairs staff doesn't have a protocol for handling Anna's rape. Seems like padmore, Hughes and Carson could kill that dude pretty damn quick.

now that Hughes knows it was him and Mary knows that Anna was raped, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried something

Hughes should do something to him. That would be rich. Carson can come to her rescue. They can bury him in the pig sty.

Best episode of the season IMO

The storyline is actually moving. I guess it couldn't really move with Mary still mourning Matthew? Its funny to see how Tom and Jimmy interact these days.

Too easy.

I bet he dies. I bet the season ends with us wondering who killed him giving intrigue for next seasons's beginning.

Like many of you, I had to pause and rewind the letter that Edith received. I figured that was what it said but had to pause it to be sure.

One thing that I somehow missed is how that blond headed girl came to live at Downton Abbey. Is that her mother with the red hair that Edith went to the abortion doctor with?
