I can't remember why Rose is living there, but isn't she the daughter of the folks the Crawleys were visiting when Mary left early to have the baby at the end of last season?

One thing that I somehow missed is how that blond headed girl came to live at Downton Abbey. Is that her mother with the red hair that Edith went to the abortion doctor with?
The lady with the red hair is Edith's aunt, Robert's sister who lives in London.

She is living there because Sybil got killed off
Edith and Mary are just miserable, boring people

yeah, she is staying at Downton while her parents are in India

Edith's boyfriend is still missing in Germany.
I tend to believe he is a prisoner.

Probably is so they can drag that out during the pregnancy. Doesn't he have to live there two years to get a divorce?

Finally watched this episode. I agree that this was the best one of the season. Extremely happy Dowager didn't die. That would have been horrible.
There are still a handful of story lines I despise, but it has definitely improved this week.

yeah, she's my favorite character.. I think they just used this story line to end her feud with the crawley woman.
Anna's "secret" seems to get revealed to a new person each episode. Now that Mary knows, I think the story line will move a little more quickly. Now Hughes knows who it was..and Bates knows as well.. the look in his eyes when he was looking at the rapist..
edith considering abortion seems kind of crazy. I didn't know they even had that back then.
the whole interracial thing is lost on today's audience..i have to keep reminding myself that this is 80-90 years ago..
hopefully they follow robert and thomas n their trip... that could be fun.

I thought if Edith had gone through with the abortion, she would end up being killed off, as well.
The Dowager is the best. If she died, I think I might have had to just give the show up.

Abortions go back thousands of years.

Juicy episode. I'm glad they're moving issues along rather than dragging them out as soaps do. However, the Bates deal worries me. No more trials etc.

I think he didn't kill Green. Its way too obviously shown that he was going to, so therefore, something else happened.

somehow, the show cut off before the end and I didn't get to see previews for next week.

That's what I was thinking, but they could accuse him and drag that out, too. I sure hope they don't.
I hope the season finale isn't already here. I'd read about a Christmas party of some sort that wasn't on the DVD of the 4th season so there were warnings not to buy the current DVD yet. That was a while ago when I was debating on buying the DVD rather than waiting for Season 4 to show over here.

every week another person finds out a little more about Anna's situation. seems odd that the guy just "fell and got hit". i guess they were just ready to move on from that story? Or will he show up again in a later episode?
I like how they handled rose's situation. Didn't try to bribe the guy to disappear or threaten him..just told him rose was only with him to piss her mom off..
Daisy.. "how can we fall out? we've never fallen in"

Bates went to go kill him, but I guarantee someone else beat him to it.

The finale was okay. I'm not sure what the cliff hangers were supposed to be other than Edith bringing the child to England. I guess we're supposed to wonder which guy Mary will ultimately choose and whether Hughes and Carson will do more than hold hands. Looks like the Bates murder saga will end.
The dowager is the best again. I found this on another site so I didn't have to type it up.
Dowager Zinger of the Week:
Violet: “Can’t you even offer help without sounding like a trumpeter on the peak of the moral high ground?”
Isobel: “And must you always sound like the sister of Marie Antoinette?”
Violet: “The Queen of Naples was a stalwart figure. I take it as a compliment.”
Isobel: “You take everything as a compliment.”
Violet: “I advise you to do the same. It saves many an awkward moment.”
