'Dodgeball’ Sequel In the Works With Vince Vaughn Returning

EXCLUSIVE: Vince Vaughn will return to star in (and likely produce) a sequel to his hit 2004 comedy, Dodgeball, scripted by Jordan VanDina (The Binge), which is in early development at 20th Century Studios, Deadline has learned.
While Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed the original film for 20th Century Fox, it’s not yet clear whether he’ll be involved in the sequel, and who, if not Thurber, would direct. Equally uncertain is who will join Vaughn on screen, though there’s certainly a deep bench of talent to pull from in looking back to Dodgeball‘s stacked ensemble, which included Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, Missi Pyle, Gary Cole, Jason Bateman and William Shatner, as well as the late Rip Torn.

All that’s known about the sequel, in terms of plot, is that it will continue the story of Vaughn’s prize-winning gym owner. Serving as the basis for VanDina’a script is an idea from Vaughn.

Did they sell blood and semen to help finance it?
Would like to see more of Coach Hasselhoff’s German team.

Probably but with comedies being in the shitter anyway it can’t hurt to at least try. Crazy how good we had it during that period between tv and movies to just a total wasteland now.

Teamwork makes the dream work. Good job boys.

Vince said he would not do this if he didn't have the perfect idea for it.

I haven't seen Zoolander 2 but I heard it was pretty bad. This makes me think that a sequel to Dodgeball would go the same way. Can they even make good comedies like this any more? I hope so.

I can see Justin Long doing it because he always talks about how much he likes Vince Vaughn. I cannot see Ben Stiller doing it.
As far as comedies go, so many of them are a product of their time. Doing another so many years later doesn’t work because they try to bridge two eras and end up pleasing neither.
Dumb and Dumber To
Welcome to America 2
Zoolander 2
Those are a few off the top of my head. They caught lightning in a bottle once and went back to the well wayyyy too late.

These way too late early ought sequels have been almost universally terrible.
Super troopers 2 and anchorman 2 are probably the only 2 in that category I’d consider somewhat successes
Old school seems like the one that I’m shocked hasn’t done it. That one seems like such an easy thing to pick up if you’re going to go that route. Plus a naturally easy way to change the cast where needed and bring in new faces for the college students to try to give it a new life

Bring back Stephen Root and I’m in no matter who else is in it.

I want to see another Lance Armstrong cameo, only this time it's Lance who is shamed by the encounter.

Why does everything need to have a sequel now?
