Well, I guess since Spider-Man No Way Home was a Sony movie, you can’t technically count it (84% drop from opening Friday to second Friday).

It's funny you mention that. I think originally before covid hit, Doctor Strange was supposed to come out before Spider-Man. I may be wrong about that, but there is concept art out there with America Chavez in No Way Home.

Is it not currently mid-day Saturday on DSATMOM’s second weekend? How will we know the weekend-to-weekend drop until Monday?

I mean, if you think Marvel is happy, that’s ok. They’ll make money, so that’s good.
We really don’t know. What I do know is that I have seen more disappointment from people than I’ve ever seen from a Marvel movie. Not hate. Just disappointment. Just based on expectations and what was delivered.
But that’s not the end all be all. This Friday drop off isn’t either.
I actually think a lot of people hope it’s not successful, because they don’t want anything like this ever again. It kind of makes me want to see it more honestly.
I really hope they don’t require me to watch a tv show again. That’s awful. Please don’t make that a requirement.

I love Evil Dead
I love Marvel movies
I didn’t love Evil Dead meets Marvel
Enjoyable, but bottom tier Marvel for me and I’m wondering if the Multiverse is just not for me. I may be a one universe kind of man.

Based on what? The general consensus seems to be a disappointment sure but overall still a good movie. I think after NWH and the rumors of this being a cameofest some people were disappointed the only cameos we cared about were Xaiver, Peggy, and Krasinski Reed

I’m seeing disappointment from things other than just cameos. You definitely have that with the hardcore fan base.
The disappointment I’m seeing is also from the normies. I’ve heard things like “dull” and “heartless”. Those are things I’m not used to hearing about Marvel movies. And it’s happening all too often now. Some people saying they were lost. The general audience.
Do people want it to fail? Maybe not. I know it seems like people would rather see other things from Marvel.
Marvel is going to keep making movies regardless. I would think if you didn’t much care for this one, you would hope it’s not successful so it’s made clear to Marvel. But maybe not.

Pretty sure Feige has had a multi year plan for phase four finished and is probably at work on phase five or has some idea. I’d imagine they’re banking on the Fantastic Four to kill it which is why I think Krasinski is definitely the MCU Reed.
Makinng Krasinski the new RDJ will help the MCU keep from losing some steam as fans will want to keep watching the new Tony Stark in Reed Richards. We also still have the most popular Marvel hero on Spider-Man entering his college years which is likely the age of which Johnny will be and like in the comics I’d imagine they’ll be good friends.
Sue could in a way replace Natasha but it’s also possible her sister will in some part fill that role. This isn’t including the X-Men and however they choose to use Deadpool. We still got the Guardians for now to deal with the space aspect as well as Carol assuming they hire better writers of course

I love Krasinski, but I’m not sure he has that kind of screen presence. He’s an excellent Reed though definitely. Maybe he can pull it. I know he’s a beloved actor and extremely likable. Just may not have that big personality to pull the whole thing.
Holland I think is the key. He’s the most liked actor in the world. I just know Disney hates that because he’s not actually theirs.
I don’t know. Gotta get through this with what you have. You have the multiverse. Not sure why you can’t get RDJ back. He’s irreplaceable imo.

I dunno about that. The domestic totals for non Disney/Sequel is really weak compared to pre Covid numbers. We have had some fantastic original movies come out this year and it feels like they haven't gotten the support they deserve.
I think a number of people are hating on Marvel because Feige tried to pander to the liberal crowd by saying they needed to focus on more female heroes, which is where the M-She-U garbage come from.

My son, who is a comic nerd, swings left, and a huge Marvel movie fan did not like this. So sure, you may see some of that, but it’s not the typical situation.
The same goes for the media reviews. It probably happens here or there, but you can usually tell in their writing if it’s agenda based.

Oh absolutely. My comment was directed more towards the people who seem to be actively rooting for it to fail, not the average person who can call a spade a spade and admit when a movie has flaws.
But that's life. Someone people will hate any Disney movie regardless. Some will defend Disney even if they lit Goofy on fire. The vast majority will try to enjoy the movie and acknowledge when it has its issues.

That’s quite a stretch, stupid marketing that the majority of the GA probably doesn’t even remember likely doesn’t have much of an affect on the box office. People need to stop letting their own politics get in the way as it seems people start to believe that the opinion of a minority is the majority.
As far as wokeness in the MCU goes it’s pretty much nonexistent. The problems of the CM movie wasn’t it being woke it was making Carol emotionless with little development which is dumb enough, but even worse when Brie is an Oscar winning actor.
Black Panther’s villain was a crazy far left black supremacist who was played fantastically by the way.
There’s was a couple of pandering scenes in Falcon and the Winter Soldier but those scenes were far from its main problems
America Chavez was basically a plot device although I do wonder what Marvel has in store for her future especially since she was originally supposed to meet Peter. As far as Kamala goes we will see how it plays out. I also wonder if Peter might be involved in someway with this since I believe Kamala has a thing for Peter in the comics

Finally saw this. Good but not spectacular. they tried a lot of new things in this movie, but as a whole it lacked some substance and there were some parts that felt cheesy. It seemed heavy on jump scares and in general leaned more towards horror and gore than I expected. I had hoped it would be more trippy and have more abstract universes for longer periods. There’s the first time they went through a dozen or so universes and had some really abstract things, but the ones they really landed in were just slightly different than normal relatively
I don’t know any history on America Chavez, but the whole thing felt forced and unnecessary
The beginning of the movie seemed to ramp up really quickly. Wanda goes from apple blossoms to Red Witch and the movie suddenly goes from 0 to 100. I did enjoy that an Avenger was a full time villain in this one

We saw it today, and I had already read spoilers and everything about.
I thought the CGI was pretty bad when they were fighting the octopus, Shurogoth? Don't know the name.
The America actress is kinda bad in my opinion, but I don't know if that's direction or her.
Olsen was fantastic. Her as a villain is pretty damn awesome. I just think she's a great actress. I don't want her to be a villain but man she is great and scary.
Krasinski wasn't what I wanted I guess. He sounded weird to me for some reason. It just didn't sound like his voice. Again, that could just be me. I hope he is Reed moving forward, but with more of an attitude.
Olsen makes the movie for me. Rambeau being CM sucked too. She had an attitude that was off putting, but I guess this could be chalked up to all of them being from another universe.
5 out of 10

So, on another angle
the actual multiverse purpose
Like I mentioned before, Strange has met Charles Xavier and Reed Richards in another reality, and discovered that they were considered equals.
He tracked himself down in other realities, will he now track Xavier and Richards down in his own? I would think they'd be worth visiting, or at least investigating. Persons of interest, so to speak.
Do they all exist in the 'regular' MCU, or in separate realities (that can now be accessed for dire need, allowing for occasional crossovers)?
Given how crowded the MCU has become, I THINK what they're setting up, are the separate realities. The Avengers one, an X-Men one, etc. It would make sense; one of the original draws of a superhero movie was the existence of heroes in the "real world". But the MCU is no longer set in the real world, so there's a little bit of a disconnect there.

Well, I watched it.
I’m trying to wrap my head around what I just saw
I first want to say that I thought this was a fun movie. I had a lot of fun, as I expected. I loved the tone. It felt like silly horror. Not quite on the level of Evil Dead, but almost like Beatlejuice or Frightners. Which is awesome. I had a lot of fun. Strange’s character has changed. He’s silly. He’s not super smart like he used to be. Which does make him inconsistent. However, it also makes him more interesting for me. He’s not a centerpiece character. He’s flawed. Maybe in another universe there exists a genius Strange. But it’s not this one.
This is an odd movie. It is silly at times. It is weird at times. It is….bizarre at times. So many things are happening and I’m like, “wtf?” I had a lot of fun with the silliness. And normally in movies like this, I don’t even care that I don’t fully know wtf is going on. I just enjoy the silliness.
The problem is that this movie tried to be other things besides what it should have focused on. Distracting from what worked. It went beyond itself too much. You do not need to introduce X and Reed in this movie. You do not even need to have Wanda as the villain. Although yes, she was great. But there’s so much missed with who she is and the details behind her children if you did not see the show. If you go from Infinity War to this, you are lost when it comes to Wanda. She is not Wanda anymore. She is corrupted I guess? She wants her children, but they’re not actually real? I did not understand any of that at all. You didn’t need to make her the villain. You have a multiverse. Why are you bringing in a villain where you don’t even know wtf is going on with her? Unless you watched her show? When you have literally an endless amount of possibilities to choose from? Really bad mistake here imo. And why are you throwing in our intro to the fantastic 4 here? And X-Men? Literally for just a few minutes of screen time? Just to kill them? Yes, I know it’s not the ones from the universe that will be used going forward. But you still throw these characters at our faces for what literally feels like no reason at all. You don’t need to do this. It’s an unnecessary distraction. It’s unneeded hype. It has nothing to do with your story. Let X get focus when it’s time for an X-Men movie. Let Reed get focus when it’s time for a Fantastic 4 movie. They pulled a DC. Yes. They threw characters at us randomly like BvS did. They went against what made them who they are. You can’t be a new Avengers movie when I don’t even know who the frick the new Avengers are.
Just make a fun Dr Strange movie. Stop trying to throw new characters at us out of nowhere. You had Raimi. You had fun horror. You had silly. You had beautiful action horror visuals. You had this dynamic with Strange and his alternate universe ex that was very heartfelt at the end. Why didn’t you focus on that the entire movie? Stop throwing shite in our face and just make a Dr Strange movie. You didn’t even need to explain the multiverse too much. It’s a Sam Raimi Dr. Strange movie. Be that. Don’t be a Dr. Strange/Illuminati/X-Men/Fantastic 4/WandaVision movie.
And why are you having the final fight between the main villain and a character literally no one gives a frick about? You did not earn that. I don’t care about her or her giant hands. Either she’s a plot device (which is fine) or she’s a main character that I care about. You can’t have her start as a plot device then expect me to care about her at the end. And if I don’t care about her, I don’t want to see her save the day. You already had WAY too fricking much going on to have time to make me care about her. So leave her on the side.
So imo, it had some really cool, interesting elements, but went too far outside itself in order to cram their set up story for future movies. And it’s a shame because there is a fun Raimi movie in here that is ruined because of it.
6/10. This is easily an 8/10 movie if:
They had a villain that didn’t require prior TV show viewing.
Focused more on Strange and his alternate universe ex.
And didn’t introduce overly hyped setup characters that didn’t fit within the story or tone.
And regarding why I think the reception is not great?
You don’t do enough to appease the comic fans considering the hype you created for yourself by introducing these new characters, and you were too all over the place for the general audience. Pretty simple imo.
Why did the new character thing work for Marvel in other movies? Like Avengers and Civil War? Well, for one, your tone in those other movies worked for any character. And you had multiple familiar characters present in them. Very well known characters. It was a balanced introduction/transition. Here they had Strange and Wanda. And a lot of us are already scratching our heads with Wanda’s current state. So you have all of that going on AND you want to introduce new important characters AND you want to introduce them from a different universe that also happens to include Professor X from the old Fox movies? It’s just too much.
You need a better balance (which is not easy to do) or you need to get rid of the new characters taking away focus from the core of your movie. What works, essentially. Silly horror, Strange and alternate Christine. And if you really want Wanda as your villain (because she was great), maybe you can even find a way to better develop her as a villain with the time you save. Develop her within the movie instead of having to rely on a prior TV show.

When Scarlet Witch started fricking up the Illuminati, I was “holy shite, this is definitely a Sam Raimi movie.”
The part where Wanda jumps out of the dark cloud and snaps Professor X’s neck, some black dude sitting next to me shouted “oh shite! Mother frick!” Which was awesome.
