As obvious as it should have been to me I hadn't stopped and thought about whether the current political divisiveness would affect the widespread appeal of the X-men. And I guess it might. The metaphor is no longer fresh like it seemed in the 70s and 80s.
Amazing how things have changed. This was a non-issue 20 years ago

People are on edge right now. They’re already concerned. People are watching Disney like a hawk. If anything smells political at all, it’s burned to the ground.
X-Men is going to be controversial even if it’s not trying to be. And it sucks because some of the parallels to real life have always been interesting to me.

If done well, it could be amazing and would definitely be uniting. But the dumbfricks in Hollywood these days will frick it up and make it divisive.

Imo, the key is to display both sides.
And that’s what’s always been so great about X-Men to me. There’s no definitive “correct” way to do something. People are going to feel differently about Magneto’s tactics vs Professor X’s tactics. If people don’t feel like they’re being forced to agree with one side or the other, I think that’s the key.
I always equate that dynamic to The Walking Dead seasons 1 and 2. Rick and Shane were the perfect examples of this. You could side with Shane if you wanted to and felt like that was ok. Some were going to feel like he was doing what was necessary.
I know it sounds dumb, but I really feel like that’s the key. Btw, the show went to shite after season 2 imo.

It’s more than a metaphor that make the X-Men so contrived, it’s also the very nature of the IP-teen heroes, rebels who do the same thing they are rebelling against, victim mentality, etc.
Even in universe-the best of them, join The Avengers.
Also, the take that The Avengers were second fiddle to the x men since the 90s clearly didn’t read Marvel since the 2000s.
So to recap-Avengers-60-80s. X-Men 80-90s. Avengers 00s-infinity & beyond.

I don't care if Wanda "redeemed" herself at the end she's too far gone and a wacko to ever be trusted again. She's signed on for like 5 more films so I hope they don't try and make her a hero again.
Just watched it. Im pretty sure the current Wanda died in the building collapse at the end. If Wanda comes back, it’s gotta be the Wanda from the multiverse the OG Wanda wanted to jump to. They hinted at her powers throughout the film.

Sounds to me like the only way we settle this is with the MCU version of Avengers v X-Men.

im in for that - so long as Halle Berry doesn't have any dumbass dialogue like Xmen 1

Do you know what happens when a toad is struck by lightning?
The same thing that happens to everything else.
Ooof, so bad.

Watched this the other day, and I cringed so hard at this line.

It's damn near unforgivable to have written that much less allowed it to be included in the film. I'm not sure if David Hayter wrote that line or it was adding during filming but if Hayter hadn't voiced Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid game series or written the screenplay for X2 then I'd have a personal vendetta against him.

Plain ol' Angry Wanda nearly took out Thanos alone, and he had 5 of 6 Infinity Stones.
If you mean in Infinity War, she holds him at bay long enough to destroy the Mind Stone, but I don't know if I would consider her having almost taking him out.
In Endgame he has his armor and blade but no stones; in that one she's definitely about to straight up murder his arse before he has his ship open fire.
I do like the HISHE version of their encounter where, instead of stripping off his armor she crushes him inside of it.
It also points out the absurdity of the women coming to help Captain Marvel (not that all the women are together, but exactly what are they going to do to help her) when she just blasts everyone in front of them.

Probably this. The Scarlet Witch version was too powerful anyway; it's the same issue they ran into with Captain Marvel and IW Thor.
To make EndGame even work they had to make Thor fat and out of shape, sideline Cap Marvel for 90% of the film, and have Thanos sacrifice a ton of his own army to keep Wanda from killing him (and she's way more powerful as the Scarlet Witch).
So they bring back one that's closer to her Civil War power level. One not fueled by the death of Vision and the insanity of losing kids she never really had.

Have they just totally given up on her accent?

I don't think it's a stretch to consider that while she's clearly multitasking in IW, if she were able to focus her attention on Thanos himself, she'd have smoked him.

It was kinda bad (in their defense, they were asking her to have an accent from a fictional place). I think they just act like her accent faded while she was living in the US.

Maybe but using her “kids” against her was pretty fricking smart, I mean those kids are traumatized for life but it stopped Wanda from commuting multi universal genocide

That would take forever honestly and they’ve already taken so many off the board.
Really going forward, the F4 should be the centerpiece of the MCU. Because Franklin can reset-then you can recast Rogers, Stark, Nat, etc.

Oh I know but it would be incredible. Especially to see Cyclops getting his moment. Phoenix powers notwithstanding.
I agree on the F4 though. The MCU needs Dr. Doom to enter the chat.
