Doctor Sleep 2019

Looks pretty interesting, and starring Ewan McGregor. I’m in.

Will probably watch when it comes to streaming. Looks like it could be good.

Interesting they used clips from the Kubrick movie. I thought the whole point of this was because King hated that one.

King loves money, that’s why he said The Dark Tower movie was good.
Also King has notoriously shitty taste in films. He thinks the Mangler is good.

I could swear that I read King's comments were that he wrote this because so many people kept asking him what happened Danny as he got older.

The book was stereotypical King. Good buildup, letdown ending.

I'm reading The Outsider right now. First 100-200 pages is some of the best stuff King has written in years. Going off the rails toward the end though.

I think Kubrick shut him out

the movie is a classic but j think the book is actually better. And That isn’t just a snobby default position.

King does an amazing job building the character of Jack, and really filling in his motivations and attempts to be good vs what’s driving him mad.

King is one of my favorite writers. But he has horrible taste in pretty much everything. He didn't like the Shining movie because he realized it was much better than his story, and only required a mild tweaking to make it better. He thought topiary animals coming to life was scarier. And as I get older, I realized that after he quit drinking and doing drugs, his writing suffered greatly. Nothing he wrote after the late 80s can compare to his 70s and 80s stuff. His newer stuff isn't really bad, it just lacks the bite and nihilism of his early publications.

I agree with this. King showed you Jack fighting the demons and trying to take care of his family. There's a complexity in the character in the book that wasn't in the movie.

Also, King's endings are frequently inconsistent, but he nails it in the Shining. The books he finishes well (Pet Semetary, The Stand) are so good.

Doctor Sleep needs a whole new third act, though.

I think The movie is great

But obviously you get more background in the book.

There is a lot more back and fourth.

I feel In the movie you’re just watching him be revealed as this sorta lunatic

In the book you can really see the place drive a very troubled man mad

The Outsider is pretty good the whole way through (Mr. Mercedes not nearly as much). You kind of have to give him the luxury of going off the rails/bringing in the supernatural. He is a horror writer.

The movie is great but the book is so much better

Can't wait to see what the great Mike Flanagan does with another King adaption

Surprised you haven’t gotten more blowback for saying the stand has a good ending
