I've always pretty much hated Sean Penn, even before I knew what his politics were. He's just one of those actors that rubs me the wrong way. The idiotic stuff he says is just more fuel on the fire.

If you "hate" someone because of their perceived political views, then yeah, you're pretty fricking shallow.

I wonder if these same posters who avoid actors because of politics also avoid athletes for the same reasons...

Yeah I figure you're right.
I mean there is not a person on the planet I avoid because of those reasons. Out of all the people mentioned in this thread I do get the feeling that Sean Penn is kind of a scummy guy, just comes off as dirty. But I've seen the majority of his movies, and if his next movie looks good I'll go see it.

I was mainly thinking that I wouldn't care if someone else chooses to make a different decision. Hate was the wrong word, dislike would have been better. But this whole thread has been "you're an idiot if you do" and "you're an idiot if you don't." I just don't care either way.

I don't usually mix politics and entertainment. Some times i may not like an entertainer for whatever reason and i might avoid their movies/concerts. But I don't think it's ever been about politics.

You types are the main reason I left the Poliboard. I don't watch Fox News and I certainly don't blast rhetoric. Quit trying to paint every single person that disagrees with you into the Republican or Conservative corner.
Yes, because the PoliBoard is overwhelmed by leftist thought. That board is pretty close to a right wing circle jerk, with a few token libs. If you felt persecuted in the PoliBoard as a conservative... then I don't know what to tell you. Unless you are just commenting on the overall tone of "rooting for the team" that goes on in there - in which case, I totally agree. It's pretty hacktastic. not everybody, but largely.

Anyway, I love this assumption that Hollywood is this leftist enclave in which conservatives can't get heard. Sure, a lot of actors are pretty liberal, given that someone attracted to the arts is probably going to be more leftist in their politics, but a lot of the money men are pretty conservative. And just about every major blockbuster is politcally conservative. Which won't stop me from watching stuff blow up.

But this persecution complex some conservatives claim is absolutely absurd. There are plenty of entertainments to enjoy and have it align with your political beliefs. And just watch Gary Oldman movies, if that fails.

I am about as conservative as can be and I don't care what an actors politics are...

They are entitled to their beliefs just as I am. I don't pick movies based on their politics.

good post.

i know someone who won't watch 30 rock because they can't stand baldwin's politics.

this way of thinking blows my mind which is why i can't visit the poli board on here. in fact, half of the rant is just the poli board with a focus on LSU sports instead of politics.

no I actually didn't learn about it through a chain email. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've never gotten that chain email.

If I avoided every movie/tv show that had an actor/actress who said stupid shite or openly believed in stupid shite I'd never be able to go to the movies or watch TV again.

Never. If they're a good actor, they're a good actor.

Now a filmmaker might be a different story. Like Spike Lee, whos made some great films (I love DO The Righ Thing) but damn he doesn't know when to shut up and just make a straight FILM

this.

Sometimes find Tom Cruise's real life insanity distracting when watching him in movies... avoided his movies for a long time after he went publicly bat-shite about scientology and Katie Holmes. That being said, finally watched Valkyrie and was able to get passed it for that role, at least after the first few minutes.

of course, that's not really a political issue, but still speaks to avoiding movies b/c of not liking the actor as a person...
