The future of Star Wars may be heading toward a massive course correction—and if a new insider report is accurate, Disney could be preparing to split the controversial Star Wars Sequel Trilogy off into its own isolated timeline and remove it from the mainline Star Wars storyline.
According to an exclusive report from That Park Place’s WDW Pro, a source close to Lucasfilm claims internal discussions are underway to “branch off” the Star Wars sequel trilogy to effectively remove it from the primary continuity and allow future storytelling to pivot back toward legacy characters from the original films.
If true, this would be one of the most dramatic franchise shifts in modern Hollywood history.
The Problem Disney Can’t Ignore
A recent focus group conducted by Matthew Belloni of Puck News paints a bleak picture of where younger audiences stand with Star Wars. When teens were asked about the franchise, the response wasn’t passionate debate or excitement. It wasn't even hate or anger.
It was indifference.
“I like the old stuff, but the new stuff… nah. I’m not too excited for The Mandalorian. I never watched it, personally,” one teen said.

shite show, but they did this with EU so it's not unprecedented

That's something that hindered the trilogy they're allegedly trying to retcon, now.

Good

How would they do this unless it’s some sort of time travel/multiverse stuff?
We already saw all of the OG characters as their older selves in that timeline

they will just act like it isnt there...
Like Holdo and her "plan" to just let the Resistance pick them off until the end.

What they NEED to do, is what is suggested in the OP. Find a way to eliminate the sequels from canon. Any way possible, just do it. My suggestion if anyone involved is seeing this- the World Between Worlds, have Luke, Ahsoka, or someone go in, see that timeline, and alter it so it doesn't happen.
After that, start with the Mandoverse... which is the timeline immediately after the OT, and most importantly contains Luke. Focus there, expand on that. Stop hopping back and forth in the timeline, because we don't need to know 100% what is going to happen. Start making films and series, and expand it going forward, not all this going back and fill in the blanks crap.

Probably. The lead will still be a female though because they never learn.

They aren't about to scrap the entire sequel trilogy. Disney doesn't like to ever admit they were wrong, especially with as much investment as they put into the sequels.
At best, they'll quietly just scrap any additional plans with sequel trilogy characters and re-theme the park attractions to the original trilogy timeline and characters.
New shows / movies should be Old Republic or they can do something with Yoda when he was in his prime.

Fans have been asking for an Old Republic based timeline movie or TV series for years.

Healthy IPs don’t have rumors like this

I understand what you are saying and if it's the only option, I'll take it.
But honestly, all that marvel style super-power shite just ruins things. I'd be cool with an announcement from an executive that those movies don't count anymore and then a collective memory erase. Kinda like how covid seems like a different life where we all agree we went a little crazy and made some weird choices, but we're all better now. Let's just do that with Star Wars.

Just make more movies like this. How hard is it?!?

It truly is just that simple.

reminds me of that fleeting time when Disney took over and we had a new hope. but that was before the dark times. before the Empire.

Would honestly make since since the firing of whats her face and the new CEO coming in.
They've already started to introduced the original characters into the parks, since they didn't incorporate any of the first 6 films into the lands.

Rogue One is easly the best of all the new Star Wars films, Dark and Gritty and not to over CGI'ed.
Andor I can deal with too, the rest not so much

How? The only one potentially left really is Luke.
Ford has zero interest and made his characters death a condition of coming back. (Focal point is Ford not wanting to come back)
Fisher is literally dead.

quote:If they decide to go back to the original characters, I would guess that they would recast with younger actors and fill in some of the timeline between the OT movies. Just a guess though and I’m not sure how fans would take different actors playing the iconic characters. I’d personally like to see them move away from the Skywalker saga - at least for a good while - but it’s hard imagine they will.

As long as they burn any “subverting expectations” nonsense, there is room to grow for the IP.
