With the Ark and The Holy Grail done already, what would be a major religious item worth basing a movie over?
Holy Lance aka Spear of Destiny - Spear that killed Christ would be a good one. It was controlled by past military leaders and was rumored to have been in the possession of Hitler during the war. You could have the Russians recover it in the fuhrer bunker and have Indiana Jones steal it back.
It could also be a relic from another religion other than Christianity or something that covers Judeo-Christian symbolism like the ten commandments.

The ark of the covenant was the original 10 commandments. Really there's nothing that tops that and the Holy Grail, but Temple of Doom had some Hindu rocks so there's other religions to pull stuff from.

The legend goes that Hitler lost it at some point and that was about the time that the whole war started going tits up for the Nazis. Who knows? But it could make an interesting movie for sure.

But you never actually see the ten commandments.

I think you just wrote the backstory for the beginning of the movie..

No George Lucas and get the writers of The Adventures of Tintin and this would be fine. That movie was what IJ4 should have been.
My post. Mine.

Holy Lance aka Spear of Destiny -
quote:
Dr. Howard A. Buechner, M.D., professor of medicine at Tulane and then Louisiana State University, wrote two books on the spear.[18][19] Buechner was a retired colonel with the U.S. Army who served in World War II and had written a book about the Dachau massacre. He claims he was contacted by a former U-boat submariner, the pseudonymous “Capt. Wilhelm Bernhart”, who claimed the spear currently on display in Vienna is a fake. "Bernhart" said the real spear was sent by Hitler to Antarctica along with other Nazi treasures, under the command of Col. Maximilian Hartmann. In 1979 Hartmann allegedly recovered the treasures. Bernhart presented Buechner with the log from this expedition as well as pictures of the objects recovered, claiming that after the Spear of Destiny was recovered, it was hidden somewhere in Europe by a Nazi secret society. After contacting most of the members of the alleged expedition and others involved, including Hitler Youth Leader Artur Axmann, Buechner became convinced the claims were true.

If they are going to do this, just push the reset button.
Make Indy younger, get a good young actor involved, and set in the 1920s/30s.
Give it the James Bond treatment.
I know nothing is off-limits anymore in Hollywood, but I really thought Indiana Jones was pretty much an unremakeable character.
This would be akin to a Shawshank remake IMO. WTF are these people thinking?
