Did the final Ep of GOT really need to be 80 minutes?

Something I noticed was that there was a ton of "dead" time. The only dialogue in the first 15 minutes was Tyrion telling Jon to wait and Jon fighting with Greyworm. The rest was walking around... through the city... through the red keep basement... crying in the red keep... through the dohraki...

And that continued throughout the episode. To break down what actually took place:

1) Tyrion finds his family (15 minutes)
2) Dany's speech (7 min)
3) Tyrion arrested and talk with Jon (8 min)
4) Dany Dies (12 min)
5) Kings Landing Kingsmoot (10 min)
6) Wrap-up (last 20)

I understand the need to end the prior ep with Dany going mad queen. But I felt like this could have been more. Why didn't we get the confrontation with Jon and Greyworm? Why wasn't Jon even considered at the Kingsmoot? Where would that conversation have gone? Instead we get the joke that is Edmure and no other suggestions or talk? Was that Howland fricking Reed there next to Sam??

Tons of walking, and I don't know why because Jon should have just fast travelled like Gray Worm.

How did Grey Worm beat him up those stairs?

Nope. Last episode didn’t either. About 25 minutes was just Daenerys burning the same houses over and over, and Arya inexplicably escaping death 20 times in a 10 minute span.

It was quite powerful and used to really state the amount of death and destruction caused by danny.

Should’ve been 240

The death of Dany should’ve been at least an episode as she was probably the biggest reason GoT became the pop sensation it was.

The dragon pit election/transfer of power needed significantly more time to not be so clunky. Then you could’ve had an epilogue on the Starks/ realm as a whole.

PD did a fantastic job in that long build up to the meeting with Dany but I’m sure people felt like it was dragging due to only having this last episode. A lot of that dead time was really effective to me.

Jon tried to fast Travel but couldn't because enemies we're nearby. As soon as he walked away, Gray Worm was able to.

Jon walking through the dothraki? Tyrion walking through the red keep and just hanging with his siblings for 5 minutes banging rocks? a 3-minute staredown with Drogon who hasn't moved for hours? Walking around the port that's been magically repaired? Walking to and through Castle Black? Was he leading them somewhere? Joining them as a free man?

I will say I lost hope when there was 10-15 minutes left and brienne is writing a story about Jaime. Out of all the things to wrap up that storyline had run its course.

Seems like they picked a poor spot to stand down there, a few feet over and they wouldn’t have been buried by rubble. Tyrion basically walked right up to the spot they were located

I agree OP. Looking back now that we know the ending, there was countless hours spent on useless characters and issues. While all the while the main story lines were countinuously lost.

Emilia Clark said herself the show needed more time....well then don't spend half an episode with a dragon needlessly burning down the city then Tyrion mindlessly walking around.

Its like they didn't know how the show was going to end until midway through filming the final episode, then ran out of time and just had to finish it up.

Greyworm is honorable and left Jon's judgement to the new king.

Because it would have caused a war.

Straight to if you make the Queen-slayer King we will go to war.

Nobody gave two shits about his lineage at that point.

If you enjoyed silent walking and dragon-fire, then you got your money's worth for these last 2 episodes.

How did people watch the episode and not get this? You can debate the reasoning behind it, but it's explained.

How? When Tyrion explains how right Varys was about them both? Because he killed Dany and the Unsullied wouldn't have it? frick the unsullied, honestly. Once they left, they're out of the picture completely anyway. Literally, nothing is stopping Jon from doing what he wants now because the people Bran was trying to satisfy have sailed off.

Normal people who actually enjoy and understand the show feel emotions and the weight of things during what you call dead time. I understand there's being genuine issues with the season but dead time? I think Scooby Doo is more your speed.
