Detective Pikachu was a fun movie

Story was kind of all over the place, but that animation was so damn good and Reynolds killed it as usual.

Yeah I enjoyed it and wished they would’ve simplified the story a little bit. Ryan Reynolds was great as Pikachu.

My kids loved it and I enjoyed it as well. There were definitely some jokes for the adults in the crowd. Reynolds was great and I thought the kid did a good job too.

I think the whole Pokemon phenom is soy based. That said, I enjoyed the movie.

Easily the best movie based on a video game. It was visually stunning, the plot was pretty fun, ryan was hilarious, but the plot was a little predictable. However, it was predictable because it made absolute sense within the universe and based on each character’s established personality, experiences, and trajectory of growth. It felt a little too much like Zootopia, but not quite as good or as twisty, imo. Although, maybe the twists wouldn’t have seemed so predictable if I hadn’t already seen Zootopia.

I agree with this, but can’t help by being disappointed by it. We only got one shot (at the start of the movie) going to catch Pokémon, and there are only like 3 Pokémon battles, none of which are all that impressive. They should have gone all out and it’s one of those movies where the trailer was better than the finished product.

I saw the Ditto twist coming, although I thought the Ditto was controlled by Mewtwo. While I granted haven’t kept up with the series since the Gold/Silver era, I was bewildered initially when that Ditto on the news set turned into a human, but then realized this was Chekhov’s gunman.
