That was a great episode. I think the scenes with Benny just showed you how distracted he really is. Also the scenes with Ally were awesome.
I hope we get more of her throughout the season.

Yeah, definitely an odd episode.
I felt awful for Mike that it was his birthday, and then the Benny and Dave stuff was just so bizarre. I did laugh hard as frick tho when Dave threw up on Allie.
It really does seem this season is all over the place and is definitely darker than season 1. Maybe it is because Dave is in a Dark place when he was trying to write his first album? I don't know, but regardless I am still going to watch to see what happens.

The gay stuff was just weird and all over the place. At one point I thought I got what they were even trying to do, but then it just kept going and going. And then going some more, to the point where it wasn't funny or even enjoyable. The Chuck thing was weird too, and they more than drove that into the ground. I was all in for Gata's stance of "Ya'll can be gay, I don't care. But I don't need to see or hear about peanut butter in buttholes..spare me that."
It rebounded a little with Ally a little, but by that point I was bored out of my mind.
And yeah, it sucks for Mike. Especially since we find out it's his birthday, and he knows Dave is lying to him about "working so hard on music" since I'm sure he saw the IG post of Gata chilling with them at Benny's house. I did really enjoy his little Observer side plot though. That was great.

Even though it's only 2 episodes in, I agree. Why was there no continuation of Dave's struggle on making his album? Episode 1 was pretty much left in the dust.
Even the Ally scene felt thrown in with no real basis. This entire time of no communication and absence is all of a sudden addressed with Dave showing up at her place while she's high on pain killers?! That's not the Ally we all loved from S1.
Ally needs to stay for sure! But, I thought it was weak writing to make their reunion based around Dave seeing she went to his dermatologist and had a mole removal that is apparently severe enough where she needs to take and be high on pain pills! Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the last time we saw her she gave that intense speech at the wedding clearly directed at Dave? She needed a better entrance into S2 in my opinion.
Honestly, it pissed me off Dave threw up on her and makes me even more angry as I type this
. Her vulnerability and opening up to still being "sad at dave" doesn't deserve that. /rant

Agreed on that too.
My problem with it is that I don't mind self-deprecating humor/situations, but good Lord, at some point you have to throw the audience some positive stuff. SOMETHING. And even something that should've been a positive for the audience (the Ally reunion) ended up just getting shite on (or vomited on) in our faces.
I'm glad the whole "Gata is all-in for LD to the point of stupidity" thing was called out a little though, by his boy Tone and Dicky himself. Dude was literally about to get LD tatted on his face. I appreciate his "all in-ness" but Jesus, dude.

I laughed many times during this episode but the gay stuff at the beginning went a little too far. He fricking tea-bagged Benny as a joke.

Then you completely missed what he was talking about. The black community heavily looks down upon gay people, especially gay blacks. It's one reason titles like "on the down low" exist. Plenty of blacks are gay (weirdly I'd bet it's much higher on average than other races), but their culture/communities look down on it so bad that they have to do it in secret. He was saying that they were able to just sit around and do gay shite together, without any fear of being judged by their peers, and then he cracked a joke about their "white privilege." That's what Gata was talking about. And it made complete sense IMO.

I hear you, but I can assure you that same stigma exists for southern white guys. Maybe it's cool in Dave's circles.
