You can't go home again. - Thomas Wolfe

They can never recapture that magic.

And doubtful they can even make self-depricating racial jokes.

So Akeem finds out he has a son and comes here to find him. I guess it’s fish out of water all over again because he’s been only in Africa since the 80’s?

I don’t know.. If it’s the son going to Africa instead, that’s just Crocodile Dundee 2.

Eh. This is a movie that didnt need a sequel. If I see Eddie Murphy in a sequel, I'd rather it be Beverly Hills Cop IV

It's almost as bad an idea as the sequel to A Christmas Story.

That's apples to oranges. There is nothing wrong with a sequel to A Christmas Story in theory b/c it's based of 5 shorts stories from a much larger collection called In God We Trust: All Other Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd. Those short stories themselves were adaptations of ones that he used to do on the radio. There are two other movies based off of that book called Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss(1988) and My Summer Story aka It Runs In The Family (1994). There were also 3 other PBS TV movies called The Phantom of the Open Hearth (1976), The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982) and The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski (1985). Shepherd narrated every single one of those as adult Ralphie. Since A Christmas story came out in 1983 you could actually argue it is technically a sequel to the first two PBS movies.

Concerning A Christmas Story 2. That movie can be called a bullshite cash grab. Not b/c it's a sequel but rather b/c it's not based on anything written by Shepard which is ridiculous considering he has numerous works to draw from. LINK

Coming to America is one of the best comedy films of all time. I absolutely love it.

That being said, it is a movie that is very Non-PC and nonashamed. Im not so sure that movie could be made in today's time.

Please dont water down the sequel.

Ya the only ones I can think of at the moment are Ace Ventura and Home Alone.

The list of good sequels in general isn't a very long one. Its also personal preference. It was stupid as hell, but I enjoyed Dumb and Dumber To for example. A lot of movies that are getting sequels after a long period of time are fueled by nostalgia. Well...its just a reason to try to make more money, but they count on nostalgia.

Mel Brooks still talks of making a sequel to Spaceballs. Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money.
