To be fair, the original, live costumes were far worse. And it's the 4th highest grossing musical production of all time ($2.9 billion), so this was bound to get made.

I don't mind the weird look of the cats. The trailer makes the whole thing look a tad too serious, no? I guess it's too much to ask the director of Les Miserables and The Danish Girl to lighten it up a bit.

But in the musical we know and they look like people with makeup and costumes on. This is some inbetween cat people CGI weird face and body shite.

CGI ruins another film. Use costumes and this becomes so much more palatable, especially with such a good cast.

I don’t think it looks that bad. It’s a musical, what did you expect? Also it’s 2019, no way CGI wasn’t gonna be used. Having said that, it’ll probably age horribly.

Why not make them actual cats if you are going to do CGI? They didnt make them cat freaks out of design choice in the original play. That was the only option. Just make them cats.
