That looked kind of good. But a very big part of this will be the CGI. Kree and Skrull drawn stuff in the comics worked but really could end up looking terrible on the big screen.

RE: the comics character I'm fairly in the dark. This iteration of Captain Marvel is apparently well known but I guess it emerged well after the Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel I read in the comics in the 70s/80s. FWIW I really liked the power set of the Monica Rambeau character that was part of the Avengers but I guess she has faded by the wayside and the Kree Captain Marvel storyline became well known.

Obviously, this is planned to mesh with the Thanos storyline in a major way but without an obvious Adam Warlock having been introduced (in either the Avengers movies or the CM preview) I must be missing some of the obvious easter eggs implying which protagonist is going to be playing that role.

SJWs said Wonderwoman was a hit because of a short leather skirt.

It was totally not true...

...it was what was filling out that short leather skirt that made it a hit. Face it...if it stared Melissa McCarthy in stead of Gal Gadot, there's no way I would have paid a damn penny to see it.

I'm not sure why the sexuality and physicality of male superheroes is treated so differently than the same characteristics in female heroines. Clearly male leads like Cavill, Affleck, Bale, Captain America are required to have an appearance that depends upon their perceived strength and athleticism (mostly reduced to how they look with their shirts off).

Hell, most people seemed inclined to give this iteration of Aquaman a chance because he looks like some combination of a NFL linebacker and a Chippendale. And that's fine. A huge part of the genre is the human form depicted in a way that most people will never personally be able to see when they look in the mirror.

Anyway, my point is Wonder Woman (among other superheroines) is the Venus to the masculine superhero Apollo. It is fairly perverse to see objections to Gadot's (fairly modest) WW when it has literally been accompanied by more revealing beefcake shots of Pine or Cavill.

The trailer was so-so to me, but I am at least interested. At this point I think there's really no way for Marvel to release a movie that isn't at least entertaining, even if it turns out to be not as good as their heavyweights. I'm only interested in the ride until A4 comes out.

I won't even get started on if Brie is a good fit or not, but I know that more times than not, whenever an actor or actress is negatively regarded for a role before the film arrives, they end up killing the part. The trailer is pretty bland with showing her with much emotional range, but if the script gives her that range I'm confident she will be fine.

I wonder if she'll be the first homosexual Marvel character. In the comics they slowly started to draw her to increasingly look like a man or butch lesbian. I honestly don't care if she is gay as long as it isn't a defining character trait. I'm definitely interested in seeing her power set. Flight, beams of energy from her hands and ridiculous strength.

...

She's not gay in the comics. She had a relationship with Rhodey (War Machine). It made it a big deal when he died vs Thanos.

The original Secret Invasion story line is one of the better ones Marvel has done. It came soon after Civil War (which, as good as the movie was, the Civil War story line had a MASSIVE impact on how Marvel stories unfolded). Those two culminated with Norman Osborn becoming head of SHIELD, and all sorts of other craziness (eventually coming to a head in Siege).

That's a fair observation. A lot of art in comics is a very modern look at the way the Greek gods were portrayed - idealizations of the male and female physical form. Even Athena, a warrior goddess, is described as being beautiful. If a god was ugly (i.e. Hephaestus), then that was a core component of their mythos. Only gods and goddesses of beauty/lust/love were implied to be even more beautiful than their fellow deities.

In all honesty, a lot of the male physique in modern movies is meant to appeal to the female eye (lean, muscular, not massive) as opposed to the male "desired body type" of your 80s action stars (huge, muscular, etc). Hemsworth would almost be considered skinny compared to your biggest 80s action stars (Arnold, Stallone, etc).

There's a great part at the end of Justice League - War where Wonder Woman says it's great to see the Pantheon again and Superman asks what she means.

She says the name of a Greek God as she looks at each one:

Batman - Hades
Green Lantern - Apollo
Flash - Hermes
Cyborg - Hephaestus
Shazam - Zeus

I thought it was really cool.

I don't think so?

I do know that it was implied for a bit that her and Spider-Man might end up together, but that thread was eventually dropped. Probably because the vast majority of his foes would get curbstomped anytime she showed up.

I think we are already getting gypped a bit with AW potentially not being in IW2. AW was very instrumental in the comics. Then you got the Infinity Watch.

Having said that, I watched the trailer and felt a bit meh. It’s always cool to see super powers displayed in movies but nothing was done to really produce a wow moment.

I still hate the Captain Marvel moniker but understand why it’s being used. I also am not sure Larson will pull of Marvel that well.

Was the original Captain Mar-Vel displayed at all? Did anyone notice?

Kate Beckinsale would have been better but I’ll give Brie Larson a chance.

Brie Larson is a bad casting call IMHO for this unless she really shows something new. I can’t see her pulling off the level of brash confidence needed for CM.
