I'm not too worried. Even is she does end up kinda boring and un-charismatic in this film, she'll get Russo'ed in Avengers 4 and most likely become we liked.

I think it'll be similar to Dr. Strange where the standalone isn't upper level Marvel but the character works well in other Marvel films.

That's a pretty good observation. Considering the only established character she really seems to get to interact with is Fury, she's going to be somewhat limited. Nothing against Fury, but his role isn't really meant for more than 15 minutes on screen in any film.

That’s what I’m missing, she seems to be the only one that powerful. Didn’t she get her powers from Mar-Vel and if so, why isn’t he the badass?

They may just write him out pretty fast, which would be a shame.
They seem to be pushing Binary in the film.
So it'll probably be explosion, they try to use their tech to save Mar-Vell, doesn't work, cancer death. Works better on her. That's where we pick up by the end.
Maybe another Simon tease somewhere in all this.
