not by as much as people think

Sam is basically Wish.com Steve Rodgers. They both bleed red, white, and blue.

I always challenge people wanting Bucky or someone else to be Cap. Sam is the most CA guy that has been introduced, NOT named Steve

But Sam should be fighting more apt threats, like Hydra-type shite. Pitting a non-serumed person against the Hulk is just silly. Look what happened to Tim Roth before he got hulked up. One punch put him in traction

And if Sam is as patriotic as Steve was, then hell yeah, make him Captain America. But don't make him the black Steve Rogers.

I agree about the villains he should fight. Just look at who Cap fought in the first Captain America movie. Normal humans, except for Red Skull. And it was exciting! We don't need to always turn it up a notch.

Yeah, Tim Roth was a badass. And Hulk swatted him like a fly. Even Red Hulk should do the same to Sam.

UNLESS he's in a super suit. And from what I'm hearing from the fan bois, that's what it is. So fine.

But now we have a Captain America morphed with Black Panther, the Falcon, and Iron Man I guess....

Seems like they're trying too hard.

Just nobody.

But if there is a 2nd place, it is Sam Wilson.

The distance from Sam to anyone else, is about as big as the difference between Steve and Sam.

Mackie's Wilson is pretty goddamn great. The writing in Falcon/Winter Soldier wasn't his fault. He did the best he could with what he had.

I think he can nail this, if he is given a good script. . .big if

I do have reservations on a few plot points, which is why I won't be seeing it on oipening week and will wait until the good faith reviews come in.

Jeremy Jahns hasn't led me wrong yet.

The Hulk tore a cop car like tissue and used it as boxing gloves against Abomination

But non-serumed Wilson can tank Red Hulk with a shield.

I am not trying to be difficult, because I like Mackie and Wilson, but I am going to need a really good explanation for that one.

I have to assume this criticism is viral enough that the writers have to have done something in one of the billion reshoots.

Pretend that you’re not assuming too much. About them being so self aware… does anyone really think the writers are talented enough to create something on their own or lift anything from the comics to successfully salvage this massive discrepancy?

We’re talking about Disney Marvel, current day.

Didn't you read a couple of posts above? It's a super suit.

a very good start for a movie that everyone thinks is going to struggle.

The problem is going to be:

Sustainability
Foreign market
Word of mouth

February is not a great month for movies, historically (always some exceptions). The flip side is there is little-to-no competition.

Even if it hits, say, $115m for a 4-day opening and manages roughly that overseas. $230m, while it looks good on paper, is a long way from profitability for a film that cost high of $400m to get in the can, plus whatever in marketing. Now, that marketing budget will be subsidized, somewhat, by the UK tax credits (which always muddy some of these calculations until they are fully known and factored in), but still assume roughly $100m for such a film, if not more.

That means that the film will need $1b, all in, to turn a profit. That's where Disney/Marvel is right now. Even if a film gets a response, it struggles with profitability because they have become undisciplined spendthrifts. And if it struggles early (or gets a 70 to 80% drop after a relatively strong opening), that's it for it.

They can't make it up with the secondary market, because these things are earmarked for Disney+. It is a hell of Disney's own making and there isn't a clear way forward.

At least three major reshoots that significantly changed the plot. This thing is going to suck.

The most troubling part is that they were tweaking the film, as recently as a couple of months ago, because test audiences still didn't like it. I do predict a strong opening, "meh" (or worse) word of mouth, no legs and the thing ends up around a $720m worldwide gross.

Again, not trying to be difficult, but that is not sufficient. Is it more powerful than Iron Man's suit?

If Hulk laid into Stark in his regular suit, he would be jelly. That is why Tony made the Hulkbuster armor.

Has Marvel ever explained how Sam, who although fit, has no Super Soldier Serum or any other "powers" is able to do the same stuff as Cap, and has a snowball's chance in hell against Hulk?

How can they explain it when the movie hasn't come out yet? In any case, Sam has a vibranium shield that doesn't obey the laws. He also has a vibranium suit from Wakanda. That will help him, obviously.

But if we use common sense, obviously Sam is not going to win in a straight up fight. Come on now. Steve would get his brains busted in if he tried to fight Hulk straight up as well. Chances are, Sam will do a bunch of dodging, until he can try and talk some sense into Hulk until eventually General Ross comes back in control.

Hulk is not the main bad guy of the film, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

It's not going to be a straight up fight. Sam and General Ross are not enemies. Ross is being manipulated by someone else, causing him to Hulk out. Sam will do some dodging and acrobatic moves to avoid being turned into paste, until he can figure out how to de-Hulk Ross.

Just watch the trailers. There is nothing in the trailers that looks like they are going blow for blow.

Its time for a complete reset of MCU. It just seems like an absurd clownshow act now. Do Dr Doom and cast new characters

Based on presales, It looks like Deadline was very accurate with this prediction. It's gonna have a good start, domestically. I'm wondering when we'll start to see some reviews.
