In a new 15-second, mock-somber teaser, South Park plugs its upcoming 22nd season with a serious-sounding narrator intoning, “America has reached a crossroads. What will we do next?”

Then the black screen fills with the message “#cancelsouthpark.”

Its really amazing that SP can survive in today's atmosphere, although I do think they have definitely toned down the "Offensive" stuff in the past couple of seasons.

I think it's because it's impossible to argue that South Park targets one demographic more than any others. They really do spread around the jokes pretty well. Which is sort of the point. You should be able to make fun of anyone because of dumb things they do and not because of an -ism.

I'm guessing this is a nod toward all the movements like #metoo and what not who are constantly trying to ruin people's lives by getting their show cancelled over something they said or may (or may not have done) like Roseanne and Chris Hardwick. I hope they blast the lunacy that's been going on.

It should have been cancelled years ago. Hasn't been good in close to a decade now.

I really have been extremely disappointed in them the past few seasons.

So much ripe for the picking and they haven't really went there with any consistency.

I have a feeling they are going to go all in and try to get cancelled.

Parker and Stove have been saying in years past they want to get cancelled.

I bet they turn it up to 11 on the offensive stuff.

I expect they'll make episodes about #MeToo and Trump this year. There will be plenty of people riled up.

Please please take on the ridiculous idea that food choices, product choices, and other things people buy with their money are not political statements (I mean outside of real donations).

Boycott movements are so mostly BS.

Honestly, the last season I personally think was "good" was season 13, which aired in 2009. Favorite episodes of that season were

The Ring
Fishsticks
Pinewood Derby
Fatbeard
Butters' Bottom Bitch

Now that's not to say they haven't made some absolute gems since then but after season 13 it seemed like they'd hit on one or two episodes a season and the rest just weren't as funny as they used to be.

I came across this one day when I was reading about Mr. Hat and what episodes he was in, and it made a lot of sense on when the show changed. It really hit home for me because I always felt that season 8 was the last truly great season of South Park and the last episode that Mr. Hat was in was the episode Preschool in season 8

quote:

Parker and Stone have said that the removal of Mr. Hat was symbolic of the show abandoning its original style as a surreal comedy in favor of its current format of satirizing real-life issues and events.

The whole Member Berries/run up to the election may have been some of their best work.

But both Parker & Stone have been I'll towards CC since their Super Best Friends/Muhammad arc got pulled.

I couldn’t disagree more. While those episodes have gotten better since their first viewing, that season is easily the weakest overall.

This episode was great. There's been a lot of good ones in the past 4-5 years. But this one...

Cartman’s “women are smart and funny, deal with it” bits are great.

I actually think the opposite. I think shows like "The Jeselnik Offensive" were just a couple years too early. There's starting to be a backlash against the PC crap, and that show would have absolutely catered to that. At least "Roast Battle" had Jeselnik as a host the entire season this year.
