Can we talk about the “Apple iPhone 16 Apple Intelligence : Create memory movies” ad?

You know, the one where we see the family is having a “No Gifts” birthday celebration for dad. The daughters say they had to get him something, then give him a claw hammer they customized. Not to be outdone, mom then takes 12 seconds to instruct her new AI iphone to make a video presentation form a picture file on the phone. She then says here’s my gift, and we see her phone playing video of pics from the family’s past, with the much younger pics of the girls. But the ad doesn’t stop at the moment that shows how personal and moving of a video the phone can help you make. It puts the emphasis on how fast and how easy the iphone the put that sh*t together, and Mom has to have her, “Who’s gift was better? & who’s smarter, because of the damn phone, mic drop, walk away” moment.

This could have been an ad kids would remember from their past, like people my age remember the Bell and early AT&T ads like this.

Instead we get a moment where mom is made to look like the family winner, that outdid her daughters in a competition.

Why couldn’t they have used a similar premise where the parents are at home by themselves talking about how he enjoyed his birthday, but wished he’d seen his girls. Then have an iphone notification go off and get him watching a video of the daughters wishing him a happy birthday, followed by a video of pictures of him with them when they were kids. Then he could have looked at mom and asked, “Where did they get those pics?”
Then mom could say they asked me to send them for something they were doing for you. The parents could have kissed. The dad could have said, “I love you and my girls”. Then the phone could have rung, so dad could say, “That must be them!”

I understand they want the process to look so easy an idiot could do it really fast, but I hate that commercial. I hope real people don’t think about outdoing each other with gifts as much as this ad implies.
