Yall are bitching about diversity in a movie that takes place across an entire galaxy. shite is ridiculous. Oh no, there’s a couple of Asian chicks and a black guy with screen time!!
We’re actually wondering why there’s no diversity in the First Order

Rose's character would suck if she were asian, white, black, brown, orange. Finn's character too. We get it, guys. It chaps your arse that 2 of 8 Star Wars movies have more non-white good guys than the usual.
Wow. You manage to properly define the problem but still draw the wrong conclusion. The mind of a liberal, I guess.
People are mad Bc those two characters, which you acknowledge are suck, were given prominent storyline BECAUSE they are non-white.

Also, why no powerful female antagonist? All the most powerful force users have always been male. All the villians have always been male. While its not unrealistic that Rey can use the force, it is unrealistic that she can hold her own in hand to hand combat against several of the baddest soldiers in the first order all at once

It does not unless diversity trumps plot and character.

Yeah, I'd love some sort of Sith antagonist like Azula. That could be wonderful.

Agreed a female force using villian would be badass. I think a female sith that was so powerful she didn't use a lightsaber but was powerful with mind control/manipulation and other force abilities(lightning etc) would be such a great character

It is noticeable that all the male characters in the new Star Wars make irrational buttheaded decisions. Doesn't help that they killed off the two good white males from the original trilogy before anyone else too.
Yea...Han and Luke are known for their well thought out, intelligent decisions in the original trilogy.
Nothing they did was dumb.

Sorry, but my very first thought upon hearing of the sequel trilogy was "The main Jedi protagonist has to be a girl this time". It's a very easy way to switch it up and it's something we haven't seen in the main series yet
I’ve read every EU novel written. I had zero issue with Rey being the main protagonist. In the EU Jaina Solo became one of my favorite characters and i loved seeing her grow as a character into basically the best of both of her families.
I have a 6 year old daughter and I have a way to introduce her to this world that I love so much because of Rey. That’s awesome as a fan. Plus, Daisy Ridley is just owning this role. So my gripes with TLJ have nothing to do with a female being put into the center.
Much like your Aliens comment, Ripley is an awesome character. I’ve been spouting this over and over again and it seems to just be lost on some people: diversity can be a part of the story, but it can’t be the only story. In Aliens there are scenes where Ripley has to prove her worth to the Marines. And her femininity is played completely different than Vasquez. So her innocence evolves across the story into the woman that says “get away from her you bitch.” Ripley evolves from the cynic softened by Newt into a motherly role that would do anything to protect her child, including being a badass.
Contrast that with the new Ghostbusters. The entire movie is a giant middle finger to men. The climactic battle is literally the girls shooting the male ghost in the dick. In TLJ, the entire subplot of Poe is a giant slap against men and in direct contrast to Leias character traits from the original trilogy. There is no reason for Purple Dern to hide the plan from Poe to the point of mutiny aside to make a point that brash men can’t be trusted.
Also, for a film so worried about diversity filled with freaking aliens, I found it telling that the evil rich people were all white men and women.

Why does it bother you that Rose is Asian?
I think people were more bothered by the fact that
a) she's annoying
b) she's ugly as hell
c) she had more screen time than Luke Skywalker

Aliens is the benchmark on how to incorporate a female lead and individuals of color.
As I put in the Fox thread, the entire B-plot of Aliens is Ripley trying to recapture her motherhood by proxy to Newt.
Ripley lost her daughter due to being lost in Space. It legit devastated her to the point that I believe she accepted the mission to not only face her fear, prove she was right, and potentially die. The dying part actually was visited by Aliens 3 (but that movie sucked arse).
As you pointed out, Ripley wasn't some uber badass or a being with powers. She was a normal woman. However, what made her extraordinary is the do it at all cost attitude. She was hell-bent on making sure she didn't lose another daughter.
shite now that I think about it more Aliens was a Ripley redemption movie more than anything!
I love that movie.

I wouldn’t know. I’m no more liberal than you are.

LOL okay. You’ll chalk up a bad white character with a prominent role as just that, a bad character. But any bad non-white character is given a prominent role because of their non-whiteness
The irony of this is i’m a white registered republican. But good lord, I had no idea SW fanboys were as delicate as they are regarding fictional characters in space. Go take a walk outside. There are a lot of non-white folks in the world, little guy

When TFA came out, so many people complained about a female protagonist. When Rogue One came out, SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED because it happened a 2nd time.
Change what you read or where you get your news. It will help. Trust me. All those people you talk about are the loud minority. The movie killed ticket sales at the box office. Stop reading click bait crap.

Is anyone mad about Rey? She's easily a top two/three character of the entire deal.
And that’s the difference.
No one cares that Finn is black.
What they care about is the list of characters who have no role in the story other than to give a skin color screen time.
