I know I'm late to the party on this one but I finally got around to watching this last night. Heard some good things on here about the movie and from a few others. Went in not expecting too much though. However, I was still pretty disappointed. It had its moments, but it seemed like each one of those moments was followed by 10-15 minutes of depressing shite happening to the main character. It never got in a good flow as a comedy and seemed to drag on. I'm guessing it got some bonus points in some reviews from some viewers for being a "shock comedy" with a female cast, but overall this movie just did not do it for me.

Rose Byrne is fine though

it did drag at times, but I laughed a good bit.
Being a bridesmaid a ton of times made it more interesting

yeah I watched it with my wife the other night because she kept saying how funny it was when she saw it at the theater. It was ok but it did drag on a lot between funny parts. It's a total chick comedy.

There should be a warning label on the cover that says Not a real comedy--Chick flick in disguise

This movie was just not that funny in my opinion. It had funny moments but too many moments that were just awkward. Plus, the main character I found annoying more than funny really.

I just found her to be a bad person. Sure your life is not ideal but don't ruin your best friend's wedding activities because of your insecurities and pety bullshite jealousy of the other bridesmaid.

You pretty much nailed it.

I saw it for the first time last night.

*****SPOILER*****

The only part of the movie that I thought was REALLY funny was in the bridal store. Other than that, I chuckled at many parts of the movie, but that was it.

Overall, I was disappointed.

It's funny recent threads on here have not been positive regarding this movie, but I received pretty strong criticism for warning everyone.... hmmmm....

WARNING: Bridesmaids IS a chick flick and has symptoms of Apatow-eukemia

Yeah I probably skipped that thread when you made it because obviously I had not seen the movie but I can't really disagree with what you said.

It was funny but about 30-45 minutes too long. It seemed like a 3 hour movie.

It was about 2 hrs, 10 minutes. WAY too long for a comedy.

Agreed. I enjoyed it overall, but it definitely was a chick flick in the end...which is fine. It definitely had some funny moments and made me laugh, but it was nothing special. It was a solid date night movie though.

Ha, almost started this thread yesterday. Watched it Tuesday night, and it was awful. Turned it off about 40 minutes in. So awkward and unfunny.

I watched this movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I totally disagree. I went in with a completely open mind and as the movie kept going, I kept saying "wait, I thought this was supposed to be funny." It was a total chick flick, disguised as something else. In fact, it was the opposite of a label issue for me. This didn't carry the dreaded "chick flick" label but it had all the shitty elements and I found myself shaking my head or rolling my eyes at how boring and stupid it was.

I actually bought into the crap that a lot of people said about it being funny. I should've listened to my instincts. Kristen Wiig is never funny, IMO. I hate her brand of comedy. The only funny things about the movie were Jon Hamm and the fat chick. Other than that, the whole tone of the trailers was to sucker men in to watching a Lifetime movie in disguise with their wives/girlfriends. Mission accomplished, Bridesmaids and studio. You won this round.

Just looked at your thread because I too had skipped it before having not seen the movie and I totally agree with you.

He had 2 of my favorite moments:

1) This is so awkward. I really want you to leave, but I don't know how to say it without sounding like a dick.

2) pulls up in his car to pick her up BOOM. Hey, frickbuddy.

Those were the only two times in the movie that I actually busted out laughing.

I'm a chick and:

1) The movie was way too long and dragged on. It would've been a lot better of a film if they would've shaved off 20-30 minutes of it.

2) I didn't understand why the movie would go from being funny to the main character being a whiny bitch because her life sucks, didn't want to date the cop guy, etc. Either be a comedy or a drama; not both.

3) I didn't think it was as funny as most women made it out to be. And a lot of it was gross-out humor.

Overall 5 out of 10 rating. So-so movie.
