I got through half of season one and had enough. So we're making drugs, the guy has lung cancer so he doesn't give a crap anymore, the other dude is a drughead......
Season 1 is the worst and slowest season of them all, FWIW. It had to be that way to show Walt's transformation from a law abiding citizen into the most successful meth cook in the country.

I love GOT and think it's an incredible series. However, the show can be fairly confusing to people who haven't read the books. Because of that, I feel that Boardwalk Empire is a slightly better series at the moment. I haven't read the books, so I do not know how it ends.
But Boardwalk and GOT are probably the top 2 series still on the air today.
I know what you're saying. It takes a dedicated viewer to grasp everything without reading. I watched Seasons 1 and 2, read all of the books, then rewatched the seasons with my father (who hasn't read any). He is a very, very observant viewer and was able to draw some conclusions that were straight from the book. It's just a little hard to do.
I'm not sure if you have the BluRay, but if you check out the History Guide on it, it gives you absolutely everything you need to know. My dad and I watched them all during our GoT fest and it gives people that don't want to read the books all of the backstory that they need.
I haven't started watching The Wire or Boardwalk yet, but I will start them after I watch the BB finale sometime this week. I will have a more appropriate opinion after I watch those. Right now my list is
Breaking Bad
Sopranos
Game of Thrones

Agree. At least in my opinion it is.

Game of Thrones
The content they will likely cover the next two seasons even if they continue with a looser adaptation as they did in Season 2 could very well blow it all open when it comes to best show of all-time.
That said, I watched about 3 episodes of Breaking Bad myself and haven't picked it back up. I started it at the same time as The Wire and I feel I'm much more inclined to watch The Wire instead.
As far as all-time OZ has to be one that's up there for me and it apparently never gets talked about. Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, the Wonder Years, Mad Men, The Wire, and etc.

From all the stuff I have read I hear The Wire is slightly better.
I haven't seen either but need to.

It must be your personal preference for crack over meth, because you must be smoking something significant to not be able to get into Breaking Bad.
I've been found out! /sarcasm
Like I said, I know I'm in the minority but it didn't do anything for me.
If you like it, that's great. I'm not going to knock you for liking it.
It's just a personal preference.

Birdman I think I may have the same opinion. Only basing off what I've read what it's about. Not sure if BB is for me, but I will give it a shot.
I haven't read this whole thread. Interested to know did you like the Wire?

The wire was better I think. But breaking bad is very very good.

The Wire is by far the most overrated show in TD history and this is coming from a fan. The movie board is Skip Bayless and The Wire is Tim Tebow. Is Breaking Bad the best show ever? Maybe. Is it better than The Wire? I'd say so. The Wire had plenty of boring episodes and season 5 was a waste.

Good lord the Wire fans are devoted. It's like a religion.

Agreed. The wire had way to many cheesy scenes, annoying characters and bad acting as well.

I love the Wire but no way is it better than Breaking Bad

It cannot be the "best show of all time" if you are punting the entire first season...

Sometimes you have the greatest show of all time (or one of them) and you cut to black, taking it down about 15 notches.
...or, you build a series of plot twists and unexplained phenomena, promise resolution to all of it by the end of the series, assure everyone it is not explained by the most basic of scenarios (and you aren't making it up as you go along), then end it that way when you run out of ideas and can't tie it all together.

quote:i'm with ya birdman. i am halfway through season 4 and the way it is praised on this board i expected so much more. i think my main gripe is the severe unlikeability of most of the characters. i find most of the characters to be extremely annoying almost to the point of intolerable. i think jessie is the only one i like. season 1 and 2 were very mediocre, the 3rd one was by far the best and season 4 so far is meh.

The Wire was well written, but slooooow. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it, but it helped me kick Ambien.
Breaking Bad on the other hand, is much darker, but hands down a better series start to finish (at this point).
As time passes, shows are romanticised and tend to become greater than they truly were. The Wire, which was fantastic, is one of those shows. As good as it was, the writing, story development, and acting isn't quite on Breaking Bad's level.
The transformation of Walter White is unlike any performance I've ever seen on television. The fact that Bryan Cranston has won the Emmy every year he's been eligible says it all about this show...

nope, its definitely breaking bad. Give it 2 or 3 years and everyone will be like, "why the hell did I say that was the best show ever". Everyone is just on the high of the show ending.
honestly, i cant believe some people have actually said that. It's entertaining, but shite...It's not that great. Good, but not great.
I don't watch many shows, but im struggling to think it would make my top 10.
Just in this past year, GOT, Boardwalk empire, and Homeland had better seasons than any one season Breaking Bad ever had. Now those shows arent over yet, but they are heading in the direction o greatness.
