weagle's order:

1 - Breaking Bad
2 - Sopranos / Mad Men / GOT

I have never watched The Wire.

I watch the Sopranos complete series once a year and will do until the day I day. I lost interest in Boardwalk Empire after the fourth season. Also that season 4 finale of Boardwalk Empire really pissed me off.

Wild bump, I know, but it’s the one that came up when I searched

As someone who’s binged both series in the last 6 months, I’ve gotta say it’s a slight BE lean for me. I certainly don’t think it’s sopranos “and it’s not close” situation

You could feel Scorsese fingerprints all over it. And talk about an ensemble cast..sheesh. What a damn collection of top tier talent

I will say it took me a couple seasons to buy into Nucky being tough as a two dollar steak at 150 soaking wet. But he somehow sells it along the way

And good grief I had forgotten what kinda body Gretchen Mol had on her. What a rack

Anyway. I love sopranos. And certainly don’t fault anyone for having it as GOAT. Beginning to end I was personally just more glued to BE

Boardwalk fumbled the bag later in the series because of off the screen stuff. It got rushed.

The Sopranos is pretty quality throughout.

The screen stuff? I don’t get it

I get that flashback time flip stuff irritates people and signals the end in alot of series but I feel like it was impactful in BE. Him basically giving Jimmys mom to the colonel was pretty informative as to why he became a semi-soulless piece of shite

I clung to it till the last episode

But maybe you meant something different

Nucky never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Benny was a screw up in both shows.

Boardwalk is a great niche series.
Sopranos is a freakin institution.

Not sure what this mean besides maximum fan hood

Character for character performance I don’t even see how you compare the two. A bus load of top shelf actors did some of their very best work in BE

Buscemi (career defining role)
Michael Shannon (absolutely crushing it)
Michael Williams (Omar from the wire)
Stephen Graham (Capone)
Michael Pitt
Gretchen Mol
Dabney Coleman
Jeffrey Wright
Bobby Cannavale
Domenick Lombardozzi (Herc from wire)
Michael Stuhlberg (Rothstein)

Sorry but the sopranos cast doesn’t hold a candle to that lineup. And every one of them swinging for the fences. Even then im definitely leaving off a few. Kelly Macdonald who played Margaret, Nuckys love interest comes to mind

Again, Sopranos was a masterpiece and the writing was absolutely brilliant. I just think BE checks a few boxes it doesn’t, and vice versa

Like I said, I begrudge no one for having Sopranos at the apex. Just my subjective take

OFF the screen.

Michael Pitts was apparently a huge issue to work with and that shortened his run as Jimmy on the show. Dabney Coleman (Commodore) also had health issues that prevented his storyline going further than it did as well.

The ending suffers from it.

The wife in Boardwalk almost ruins the entire series. Just insufferable.

The wife in Sopranos was annoying at times but talked about other things besides MY CHILDREN WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN

Michael Pitts always drug the show down and I never thought he fit with the aesthetic either. He took me out of most scenes he was in.

I don’t get that from her at all but to each his own. She was a devout catholic yet rarely rode Nuckys arse about his dealings. You could fully understand her inner conflict after her gambling, drunk, woman beating husband took a swim

Nucky treated her like royalty and she made numerous attempts to fit into his world until her convictions just made it impossible

Not to mention she was a legit natural beauty. Carmella looked like a complete mutt by comparison

I would have agreed with your statement had it been made prior to GoT.

The final 3 seasons of Thrones were simply awful. Sopranos is 10x the show that Thrones was start to finish.

let's correct that subject line ... Sopranos vs the Field

Band of Brothers , but it is in a different weight class.
