The marketing has been just awful for it. It’s basically been “hey you liked Harley Quinn, right? Well come watch her do stuff with this team of chicks you’ve never heard of”
The idea people like the "character" of Harley Quinn is the first misconception.
Margot Robbie is very attractive and charismatic, that's what people mostly liked.
Also Suicide Squad came out in August 2016, you know what that was 2 months before? Halloween. Just because every single slut on the planet dressed up like Harley Quinn for Halloween that year didn't mean much.

And years later, it's still a popular Halloween costume and is one of the favored costumes at any comic convention.
This film has its share of missteps, but Harley Quinn being anything but a popular character isn't one of them.

So is Cammy from Street Fighter II, but I doubt they attempt to build a movie franchise about her any time soon.

Bizarre move to make this a rated R movie. I feel like this movies shoulda been aimed at the tween crowd

Agreed. For those of you who've seen it, was rated R really necessary?

From Deadline

"Last night, Birds of Prey over-indexed in the West and Southwest, as expected. Unfortunately, I’m told by distribution sources that these female-charged event pics are challenged in the divisive, conservative-leaning flyover stats where Birds of Prey under-indexed. Imax and PLF delivered 34% of the gross to date."

I prefer chun li and her thick thighs.

No idea why it was rated R. Language was a little strong? No nudity, no sex scenes, no gore... sure seems like it could have been PG-13. Hell, the violence wasn't really that violent.
Decent movie. DC should have started with this and moved up to the bigger characters. All the talk of how feared the Joker was by the villains in this film made you want to see him that much more.

There was only about 30 people in our theater that seats about 200. It was a 7:30 Saturday showing so that was kind of pathetic. It wasn't as bad as most DCEU movies. The majority of the cast was fine minus the little girl. The action was good but the story and dialogue was pretty bad. The man hating was definitely on full display. It was ok at best.

Considering Harley was created by Batman:TAS so is relatively new in the DC world I think counters your point. Look at her footprint now all across DC. She's not just limited to Batman stories. That tells me she is mega-popular. Throw Margot Robbie into the role and, yes, she's very popular. Even with substandard vehicles like these two movies.

Ever since she was Royal Pain in Sky High
She was an appropriate level of badass as Lucy McClane in Live Free of Die Hard

Anyone who came out of this film pissed about how SJW preachy it was, went into it looking for reasons to justify that perspective.
I liked it...thought it was pretty good, clever and funny.

Pretty much.

I agree, deconstructing the male gaze and female empowerment are not SJW. Conservative middle america need this movie at this time in our country's history. We are in 2020 not 1920. I am happy that Hollywood is willing to eat some losses to make a larger impact on society as a whole. We cannot progress if we hold onto outmoded ideas.

You’re overselling your performance. Just speak from your diaphragm so they can hear you in the rear seats and live the moment.

So you are literally pissed that the females are the lead.
I swear, if Aliens came out now this board would cite it as SJW propaganda even though they love to bring it up as evidence they are okay with a female lead.
Talking about how Gorman and the corporate guys characters were a personal attack representing all men because they didn’t want to listen to the truth just because she was a woman.
Or the fact that a little girl did better at surviving than a whole squad of manly marines.
Would call Paxton’s character filled with bravado but cowardly and whiny at the face of adversity to be an attack on the military.

I’m intrigued by the trailer but the whole color scheme and tone of the movie is just throwing me off having watched all of DCs past pictures.
Speaking of having watched the DC movies, is there even a over arching theme with these things or are we just throwing out independent character films and looking to churn a buck?

How far into this did you get before you had to stop and laugh?
