Last night, Birds of Prey over-indexed in the West and Southwest, as expected. Unfortunately, I’m told by distribution sources that these female-charged event pics are challenged in the divisive, conservative-leaning flyover stats where Birds of Prey under-indexed.
Now show us the data of who goes to movies, because I'd bet most hits over-index in California relative to fricking Iowa.
And the southwest outside of California is also conservative, so I don't think the conservatives in New Mexico and Arizona were somehow less offended by women on the movie screen that the conservatives in Nebraska.
Whoever wrote that is straight hunting for bullshite.

I didnt go see it. No intention to, I never liked the character on the animated series and I have no sexual connection to Margot IRL. so I dont owe it to her.

No idea why it was rated R. Language was a little strong? No nudity, no sex scenes, no gore... sure seems like it could have been PG-13. Hell, the violence wasn't really that violent.
I think it was probably a miscalculation that it would draw in the Deadpool type audience.
But given the way it was marketed I think that was a mismatch of expectations. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like the content would have allowed a PG or PG13 rating and maybe brought in more younger women who want to see girls kicking butt on screen.

Jesus frick it's a never ending cycle with you idiots. If it's not the SJWs crying about the lack of forced diversity it's the snowflakes on the right crying about women leads.
I saw Tim Pool's dumbass calling the movie "woke garbage". There's literally nothing about woke culture in this movie. On a related note some Salon writer claimed this movie was a fight against rape culture which also isn't in the movie.
People injecting politics into movies where it doesn't belong has become incredibly annoying :

I think this is the downside of DC/WB giving directors free rein. Sometimes you end up with Joker, and sometimes you have a director make a misstep and create an R film that didn't require to be R.

Here's his review. He breaks it down pretty specifically.
Birds Of Prey Is Insane Woke TRASH, Spoiler Alert But Who Cares Anyway
Not a right wing guy either. Former Occupy, Bernie supporter, worked for Vice Media, etc.
I wanted to see it and probably still will. Not anytime soon, though.

"There was not a single man in the entire movie who was, like, good, in any way."
That's bullshite.

I actually used to like Tim but lately all he does is pander to hardcore Trump voters and other right wingers. At best his video is click bait considering there is nothing woke about BoP

I thought it was outstanding. I turned to Mrs Vox and said, "Makes you hope that Brie Larson sees this, and something sinks in."
Margo's Harley is infinitely charming.

Problem with CM was how she was written. Brie can be charming, the writing for CM made it impossible. :

The writers for Captain Marvel don't dictate that Brie Larson be an insufferable See You Next Tuesday eight days a week when she's not filming.
I don't understand why Warner Bros can get HQ, WW, Joker (not so fast, Jared Leto), Shazam and Aquaman so dead-on, and yet habitually frick up their two tent pole characters of Superman & Batman.

He lists several things specifically, things that if true are definitely textboox woke.
But it's always the same broken record with you. The moment a movie like this is even announced, you report here promptly about "the melts" and when it comes out, you and the other whackoffs serve as the apologist PR marketing team for the movie.
It's a lost cause anyway. BoP has undeniably bombed.

Problem here is he's being incredibly disingenuous. It's mostly him leaving out important details or just straight up lying. He also goes into full denial mode when talking about the audience score.
The closest he comes to being correct is saying all the men besides the one on the club were assholes, but everyone was an a-hole minus the main crew. Also this list of reasons he talks about were mostly jokes and there is one massive reason the movie states early on.
I'd like to really break it down but this is a non spoiler thread

The balder Pool gets the more bitter he has become.

For the life of me, I don't understand how this missed projections by $15-20M

I'm starting to believe these actors are really stupid. Just kidding. I didn't just start believing that. They are what is turning people off. It doesn't matter whether this movie is good or not. When Ewan McGregor says dumb shite in the media, that the woke media gladly spreads far and wide, it sinks the movie. It's a shame, but that's what is happening right now. Once some people read those headlines, they make up their mind.

This assumes the masses are reading minor movie news in great quantity, which we know is simply not true. Most people are not on Twitter or stupid movie forums and would have never heard what McGregor said.

I think it's as simple as marketing aimed at an age range that is largely made up of viewers that are too young to see R rated films.
If they had made it PG-13 or aimed the ads at a more adult audience, it probably would've helped a great deal.
