Also unrealistically, all of the police precient, the SAME precient under Gordon , all the men who work with Batman, tolerate dog piling on the lone WOMAN detective?
Then the comics, previous films, and the TV series Gotham all got it wrong. Because bad cops in Gotham is a constant theme. Compared to the Bullocks and bad cops in the films and the rampant bribery going on in the Gotham TV series, the dufus cops in Birds of Prey are nothing.

The marketing has been just awful for it. It’s basically been “hey you liked Harley Quinn, right? Well come watch her do stuff with this team of chicks you’ve never heard of”

Yeah the marketing for this movie was downright awful. I'm going to the movie tomorrow because I'm a fan of Harley and Margot Robbie.

You would think that after over 20 years on the job, and with Gordon in charge of the Gotham PD, that Batman would have led to clean up of the police department by now.

The movie would have us believe that every single man in the DC Universe is knee deep into misogyny.

Seeing on Reddit that reports of a 8M true Friday... Only 12M with Thursday is really bad. Might not hit 30 for real

4.0 previews

8.6 Fri

11.2 Sat (+30%)

7.3 Sun (-35%)

Around 31K weekend.

Comic book movies average about a 2.8 multiplier, so a domestic finish of 86 mil

Pretty much. It doesn't matter how good a movie is, if the marketing is total arse it's not going to do blockbuster numbers.

On the other side, there are quite a few mediocre to just plain awful movies that did far better than they should have purely b/c the marketing campaign made the movie look incredible.

I didn’t even know this movie existed until about 2 weeks ago. The marketing was terrible.

Hmm. Something is definitely fishy on this site. The amount of dudes on M/TV board that refuse to go see movies about anything other than a white dude. Does not correlate with the amount of dudes on here that claim not to be gay

So it was projected at around 50M and it looks like it’ll get 80 now? So it rebounded?

The bad financial word of mouth may outweigh the good viewer word of mouth on this one. There are people who still avoid John Carter because it was a “bomb”, even though it’s a good movie.

What? Zero chance it had a projected global box office of 50 million

I believe the initial projections were $150-175 million worlwide for the weekend.

$50m was the North American estimate. $80m worldwide is still a poor showing.

quote:

Ouch. Birds of Prey only managed $13.03 million on Friday, putting it on pace for just $32 million to $33 million over the full weekend. This is miles below expectations; it’s even lower than projections based on Thursday’s previews. However, it isn’t a bad opening for a film that cost $75 million to make. Add in the film’s reviews and its B plus from CinemaScore and it should have decent legs, especially with the holiday next weekend. It will be the weakest installment in the D.C.E.U. and I think this is clear evidence that making the film R-rated was a mistake.

Also, while it may still have done less than projected no matter what (no idea how good or bad the marketing has been in various Asian countries) the effect of the coronavirus outbreak will have on the numbers Asian markets can't be discounted.
