#BirdsofPrey is delightfully unassuming and unconcerned with its place in a larger context. It's a bonkers bananas crime comedy and a genuine party movie. Everyone is having a blast but Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Huntress like a supporting character from THE TICK. It rocks.

quote:

Laura Prudom
@LauInLA

#BirdsofPrey is a riot - oozing with attitude and some of the most inventive, bone-crunching fight sequences in the superhero genre to date. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but has style to spare.

Had an absolute blast w #BirdsofPrey. Its truly an ensemble with every woman bringing it (Rosie & Jurnee are my faves tho). Christina Hodson's script was lively, funny, & everything I've been waiting for in the DCEU. Dir Cathy Yan created a Gotham that I can't wait to revisit.

If the DCEU doesn't hand everything over to women now, they are clearly out of their minds. #BirdsofPrey

????Patty Jenkins????
????Cathy Yan????

Birds of Prey is solid. The unpredictable structure keeps the first half moving and the action boosts the rest. Robbie is excellent, as is McGregor. It’s tamer than expected and the basic story can get lost in the complex setups but it works more often than not. #BirdsofPrey

quote:

Eric Eisenberg
@eeisenberg

#BirdsOfPrey isn't a Birds of Prey movie so much as it's a Harley Quinn movie feat. BOP – and that creates issues story-wise & in fleshing out characters – but it's a hell of a lot of fun. It's at its best when going full Harley-vision, & Margot Robbie is clearly having a blast.

quote:

@TheOtherScottM

BIRDS OF PREY: Cathy Yan has created a music infused celebration of female badassery. DC continues to take big risks and push boundaries. The perfect Harley Quinn movie. Margot Robbie crushes it. I loved all these ladies & am looking forward to the sequel/spin-off. #BirdsofPrey

quote:

Eric Davis
@EricDavis

#BirdsOfPrey has terrific action, humor & some of the more memorable characters we’ve seen in a DC movie, but the biggest highlight is Margot Robbie. She is fantabulous as Harley, while also proving that sometimes our most valued relationships are the ones we have w/ good food

quote:

Millicent Thomas
@MillicentOnFilm

Cathy Yan’s #BIRDSOFPREY is a criminally fun celebration of sisterhood, with some of my favourite fight scenes in recent memory. I was grinning from ear to ear the entire thing; making a pub debut with my review soon!

quote:

Grace Randolph

#BirdsofPrey is a stunning show of loyalty to #DavidAyer - a true sequel to his #SuicideSquad, both the good and the bad... (But NO Leto)

#MargotRobbie will either redeem the man who made her #HarleyQuinn, or go down with him...

We will see! #DC #DCEU

quote:

Grace Randolph

#BirdsofPrey let me add it’s extremely pro feminist, a #DCEU’s #CharliesAngels (which I prefer to this). That got a good RT score so suspect this will too.

That’s MEDIA

But true #DC fans? When u see what happens to #BlackMask? NO real #LGBT representation? I’m curious indeed...

quote:

Sean O'Connell
@Sean_OConnell

Believe this. #BirdsofPrey whips all sorts of arse. It is a hard-hitting, unapologetic origin story for the team, and a terrific, vicious vehicle for #MargotRobbie. Violent, funny with CRAZY fun action. And Ewan McGregor is on a different frequency, but wildly entertains! See it!

quote:

Griffin Schiller
@griffschiller

#BirdsofPrey is one word: FUN! A frenetic hyper stylized Harley Quinn comic book come to life (it’s her movie). It’s DC’s Deadpool w/ a dash of Tarantino. COULD NOT get enough of McGregor’s Black Mask; hysterical, eccentric, & deliciously pathetic. A rockin’ kick arse good time!

quote:

Shaurya Chawla
@_ShauryaChawla

BIRDS OF PREY mostly entertains, and goes balls-to-the-wall insane in certain scenes, with a fantabulous Margot Robbie performance, great supporting leads, peppy soundtrack, fun action and fast pace. It doesn't *always* work, but there's never a dull moment either. #BirdsofPrey

Some early thoughts on #BirdsofPrey:

As a Harley fan who grew up w/ DC, I really enjoyed it. I don’t think everyone will love it. Heard people walking out of the theater saying they either liked it or it was all right. Think that will be the consensus.

quote:

Alisha Grauso
@AlishaGrauso

#BirdsofPrey is like if John Wick were run through a crazy funhouse filter and stuffed full of glitter and f-bombs. It's everything you could ever want from #HarleyQuinn and her badass girl gang. Into this movie completely. ????

quote:

Chris Sylvia
@Sylvioso

#BirdsOfPrey is a violent, seedy slow-burn leading to a flock-up that’s truly something special to witness

quote:

Brandon Davis
@BrandonDavisBD

#BirdsOfPrey is a lot of fun and violent as hell. The Birds are so entertaining and distinctly different from each other. Ewan McGregor is so sinister and often hilarious.

Brandon Davis

The only fair comparison for #BirdsOfPrey, if you want one, is Deadpool. They have a lot in common, especially their use of fourth-wall breaking and R-Ratings!

quote:

Courtney Howard
@Lulamaybelle

#BirdsofPrey is an absolute blast & undeniably fun live wire jolt of adrenaline. Delightfully devilish & deliriously wicked,this irreverent, rule-breaking riot delivers a contact high. Cathy Yan is a genius. Robbie, Smollett, Winstead, Perez & Basco are perfection. @birdsofpreywb

quote:

Katie Walsh
@katiewalshstx

#BirdsofPrey is a totally campy and brutal carnival ride; a colorful, chaotic and cheeky blast. FYC: Ewan MacGregor, Best Supporting Actor.

quote:

Joshua Yehl
@JoshuaYehl

#BirdsofPrey was like watching @AmandaRantsAlot & @jpalmiotti's zaniest Harley Quinn comics come to life! Margot Robbie had me in stitches from all the bananas stuff she does. And she impresses in the most wild and creative fight sequences of the modern superhero movie era.

Joshua Yehl

We think of Harley Quinn as unpredictable, but man, Black Mask almost outdoes her in terms of the pure batshit crazy stuff that comes out of his mouth. He definitely keeps you on the edge. Ewan McGregor clearly had a good time just going nuts with the role.

quote:

John Rocha
@TheRochaSays

#BirdsofPrey will absolutely satisfy the #DC fans! #MargotRobbie expertly gives depth & humanity (amidst her maniacal glee) to the lovable yet deadly #HarleyQuinn . The story gets a bit clumsy but this is a bad arse ladies kicking butt and bonding film. It’s a home run hit there!

I actually think Robbie is great as Harley, but idk if I’m gonna buy all the ‘girl power’ reviews - at least for now.

I do want to see it, but it won’t be an opening weekend viewing or anything.

Y’all make such a big deal with someone makes an all female reboot and say they should make original movies instead of rebooting shite with women

Then they take that advice and you’re still upset

Right? It’s literally supposed to be an adaptation of a kick arse 90s all-girl superhero team.

If people are dropping that it’s DC’s Deadpool, I’ll check it out.

My teenager wants to go see it, so I'm sure we'll be going the first or second weekend.

But if it's an entertaining comic book movie, who cares if it's girl power theme? Chill baws.

The first reactions for Wonder Woman came out and it was a bunch of women talking about being in tears as they finally saw powerful yaddah yaddah yaddah.

Didn't keep me from enjoying the movie as a sexist superhero fan.

I'm going to agree for the most part.

But there is also a difference between a movie for and about women and a movie for and about girl power, which I think is the issue at stake.

In any case, we all know how relevant early reviews are. These are mostly paid shills that's why they use "fantabolous" and everything is over exaggerated. It very well may be a decent film, but we won't have an idea until the real press reviews are out.

Grace Randolph being mad that it doesn’t cater to Alphabet people or go SJW mode makes me very eager to see this movie. Her pouting is a ringing endorsement for the movie.

I figured they used "fantabolous" because it's in the movie's subtitle.

I mean these are "critics" in the loosest sense of the word, as are all of these early reviews are. These are the same group that hired to pump most blockbusters. Excitement is their game, not criticism.

AO Scott, Berardinelli, Edelstein, Orr, etc. Those guys are where at least some discussion starts.
