Also Harley Quinn without The Joker is not very interesting.

Well that's just a dumb thing to say. This movie bombed because the marketing for the movie was absolutely awful and that title wasn't going to reel in a lot of the GA.

Overall the movie was pretty good and didn't have anything to do with woke culture aside from one little joke early on.

I haven't seen the movie but based on the image in the OP, I can see why it bombed.

It was then Fox and Disney started making easy bank.

This was aimed as the WB Deadpool.

I'm more surprised that McGregor and Robbie didn't put more butts in seats. But WB went out their way to make the costuming uninspired enough that it appeals to no one.

Marketing was TERRIBLE barely saw anything for it, and what I did see didn’t look great, add in the HORRIBLE title... it’s no wonder people didn’t go see it. Wtf is birds of prey? Just call it the Harley Quinn movie and then people might have an idea of what it’s about.

Why? Neither of them have proven to be a box office success.

Isn't February generally considered the worst time of year to release a movie and is thus the time when studios dump their shite into theaters?

Generally, yes. But if a movie is truly good, it will stand out.

What the article said...

quote:

Actor Ewan McGregor explicitly described the movie as a feminist themed attack on misogyny in an interview from October 2019.

What I read...

quote:

We took a genre originally and generally appealing primarily to males, made a movie in that genre but instead of focusing on the genre's demo we decided to go in the exact opposite direction so we instead made a feminist's wet dream then were astonished that it bombed.

FIFY

It's almost like pop culture has always been vapid and fleeting compared to actual culture.

What I saw...

Your average fun popcorn superhero movie that was lighter on feminism than most female led films and was basically a mid-level Marvel movie.

The majority of the superhero comic book fandom is and always will be male. It's just something biological about the appeal (similar to IT). It doesn't mean females can't nor won't be interested, it's just that it appeals more to males than females.

Hardcore feminism is a turn-off to that large, core audience so by going hardcore with the feminism they've told the majority of their potential viewers "this movie isn't for you". That's what the box office is showing and just changing the fricking name won't do dick.

When Black Widow comes out, expect it to be yet another sizable hit for Marvel/Disney because while it too will be a female against males, it's going to be a GOOD frickING STORY where the genders of the heroes and villains are irrelevant instead of being a central theme for the story.

thing is, as I posted the majority of tickets were purchased by 25+ year old males. So its failed to even reel in the feminist crowd or even general moviegoers.

the movie was just a marketing failure. Kind of the opposite of some of WB's past duds. Lured in with good marketing and trailers...only to be a total POS. Haven't seen it but looks like this time they had a solid product but failed to sell it to general audiences. I couldn't tell you a thing about the plot of this movie.

I mean in fairness, half you guys's reasons in the other thread for not wanting to see it were hella sexist.

Margot Robbie didn't want Harley Quinn to be sexualized as she was in Suicide Squad

Sex appeal is the only reason Harley Quinn is a thing or was ever a thing.

And Margot Robbie is also only a thing because of sex appeal. Until Wolf of Wall Street she was a C list nobody.

This is what happens when you start trying to make social statements and instead of trying to make money.

Had the trailers included Robbie dancing around in her underwear and stroking guns, and making our with her "birds" (cast with much hotter chicks) what do you think the box office this weekend would have been?

I love some of these retarded takes
Sex appeal is a thing but it isn't even close to be her only thing. Her background and story of breaking away from the Joker had a far bigger impact on her rise from show to comic to everything else

The latest entry in the DC Universe of superhero movies bombed badly at the box office, and feminist critics are blaming the misogyny and sexism of the male audience.

Then why did Wonder Woman do well?

If they would stop doing this, people would stop fighting against these movies.

Just say it is a fun movie.

A large portion of society rejects movies billed as a “feminist themed attack on misogyny”.
