Does Andy's character get as ruined as I remember in the later seasons?

I think maybe so, yes. I had totally forgotten that he has a stint as the regional manager. I find him in these episodes largely unfunny and completely neutered. They even reveal (seemingly randomly) at some point that he is an awful salesman.

If you'll recall on his very first episode (S3:E1 - Gay Witch Hunt) he is presented as cunning (attempts to get Jim away from hot office gal he has his own eye on) and prone to angry outburst (completely flips out when Jim puts his calculator in jello).

Read the thread. The one guy can't watch the black kids or Idris Elba as boss.

There was a discussion on this episode a while back, and several people felt uncomfortable over that episode because of Michael going there knowing he can't pay for their tuition and meanwhile all the kids are putting on the special show to thank him for what would never happen. That had nothing to do with race.

I like Idris Elba, but I wasn't a huge fan of that story arc either. I don't remember an actual joke come out of Elba's mouth during those episodes. He just huffed and puffed around the office while Kelly and Angela fawned all over him. Wasn't very funny.

Actually go start a thread on the OT and get this bullshite talk out of the thread. Most of us are tired of the political and race shite. Thanks.

Wow, I had no clue Minor was Idris Elba.

I didn't like his stint as manager either, nor did I like Deangelo. The only good manager besides Michael Scott is when Dwight stepped in - only because, well, he's Dwight.

The thing I love about this show is that there can be something or somebody you don't quite like, but there is plenty more going on to keep the show awesome. To me, there hasn't been one bad part to even remotely ruin the whole show.

I just finished the episode for the interviews for Deangelo's replacement. I guess the show people thought they needed a lot of big guns as salve on the wound of Michael's leaving. I miss Michael.

I don't want my own thread derailed by this shite, so I'm happy to drop the discussion. I still find it quite convenient that in an entire show built on absurdity, it just so happened to be these two things that were un-rewatchable.

The whole point of the show (and in particular, it's father - the British version) is uncomfortableness!

Right. He was a straight man. The joke was that he was himself a bad manager due to picking Dwight over Jim. The joke was also that Jim FINALLY got a bit of comeuppance. If you didn't like that, then I don't know what to tell you. You would almost have to dislike the very concept of the show to not get utility out of Jim having the tables turned on him. Minor's entire story arc was one of dramatic irony in which we (the audience) already know that Dwight is an absurd dipshit, all while the new boss is praising him.

Yeah. I had totally forgotten about Romano, Carrey and Arnett (although I did spit out my drink when he said he was interviewing for Vance Refrigeration.)

Almost every single person I know who has watched the whole show (including me) did not enjoy the show NEARLY as much when Michael left. After re watching a few times, then final seasons have been far more funny than I originally thought. Ive watched all the way through 3 or 4 times with different people.

I'm really hoping this is true for me. I just started Season 8. It's OK. I actually do think Robert California is humorously written. I'm not even sure the tail off has to be blamed on Carrell's leaving - it could just be typical tailing off of a great show after so much success. 9 years is a long time to be on the air. The show spanned 2 controversial presidencies and the rise of social media/smart phones!

Same here. The later seasons were funnier on later rewatches.

God you suck

If you poll Office fans, the single episode that almost everyone says they can't rewatch is Scott's Tots. It is the most cringe inducing episode in the entire show's run. I never rewatch it.

And the Idris Elba story line wasn't my favorite either. He was just a dick and I didn't enjoy it too much.

I wonder if that's not because we love the characters so much more after rewatchings. My feeling towards these characters now is very close to "god, I wish these were real people."

I had really forgotten how hilarious the PDA episode is. My god. So many great lines and moments.

You can't reason with someone who immediately throws out the race card. He holds the distinction of being the only person to ever ruin a thread about the office.

I'm most of the way through Season 8...and it has been very good...way better than I remembered. I really enjoyed the Tallahassee story arc (Cathy - )

Florida Stanley is my favorite Stanley. One great scene is when the hot chick is in Jim’s room trying to seduce him and Stanley comes in to raid his minibar. He says “Careful Jim, it gets easier and easier”.

Yeah, Stanley was really allowed to shine in FL. I like how he was just in a generally pissy move once the trip was over.

That and I hate the Charles Minor saga.

I love the Charles Minor storyline. Outside of Michael actually leaving and the whole Michael Scott Paper Company debacle, I really liked the in-office dealings with it.

The MSPC thing seemed to go a bit too far, and it was a little strange that they were able to so easily get one over on David Wallace, but in the end we got to see part of what got Michael to where he is in life. His showdown with Wallace when he says he just has to outwait Wallace...that was great. And then Charles leaves adn Michael doesn't even let him get his goodbye statement in and makes him leave. That was great too.

Jim wearing the tux on Charles's first day. Charles going all in with Dwight. The back and forth between Charles and Angela/Kelly. Him sucking up to Wallace constantly. Everyone trying to impress him (googling soccer stats and stuff like that). All of that was great. Hell, even Charles getting his shots in at Jim at the company picnic later down the road was good stuff.
