Better movie, “Blazing Saddles” or “Airplane”?

Spin-off of the “Airplane” thread
The only way to see “Blazing Saddles” is unedited, and I’m not sure if any streaming service will touch it with a 10’ pole right now (even though it’s written by a black man).
Best scenes:
Old lady apologizing at the window
10¢ toll
“This is my shooting’ hand”
and of course the entire:
“The sheriff is near” to “Someone help that poor man” scene

The better movie is Blazing Saddles but Airplane is funnier and relentless.

I forgot about any scene in the Governor’s office. Harvey Korman was funny as shite.

Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie ever made. Airplane is so damn close, though. It's splitting hairs. I think the edginess of Blazing Saddles puts it over the more goofiness of Airplane
In saying all that, I think Lloyd Bridges may be the funniest performance of of both movies, and that's an accomplishment to say the least.
But the ensemble of Pickens, Brooks, Wilder, Little, Khan, Dom DeLouis and especially Korman (who legit could have and probably should have been nominated for an Oscar, but damn 1974 is stacked), every other cast member, and Pryor's writing put it over the edge for me.
The first hour is especially dynamite. If I had to get out Dien to one joke, it's literally anything Slim Pickens says, or The Irish joke. LINK

quote:there were 5 writers on the movie, 2 of them were black. The story idea was a black mans. IMO without Mel Brooks the movie would not be remembered today. He is the mind that make it the greatness it is. wiki says..."The film was written by Brooks, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg, and Alan Uger, and was based on Bergman's story and draft."
(even though it’s written by a black man).

They are both so great. Airplane being a damn near 1 for 1 remake of a drama and still being outright hilarious and timeless is so great. Blazing Saddles has higher highs and a ton of good jokes all around.
I might have to flip a coin to decide.
Leslie Nielson playing a straight man saying the most absurd of lines kills me but man if I don't love every character in Blazing Saddles. We're gonna need a shitload of dimes.

As per the other thread, I plan on watching Airplane! soon, but it will be hard pressed to resonate like Blazing Saddles does with me. That is one of the absolute funniest movies of all time IMO. Every character is great and almost every line is amazingly on the nose funny.
I'm pumped about Airplane! though...I've seen many scenes from it, just not watched it start to finish. And obviously I've heard nothing but good things about it. And this thread (and the other one) have me excited about seeing it finally.

I mean, that's like asking someone if steak or lobster is better. People will prefer one or the other but both are excellent.

I hadn’t seen Blazing Saddles in 20 years. Put it on a while back and black family friend was in the room. Quickly felt awkward
