Yeah he did. We also forget that as long as we have known Chuck he has been mentally ill. He's been a desperate man. You really saw his vulnerability when his ex was back in the picture briefly. Jimmy has taken advantage of him and an old lady. He will do anything to get ahead, even if he shows remorse.

Chuck was right.

I edited my earlier post. I'm trying to think of something from the previous seasons to give an answer to this. May binge watch seasons 1 and 2 this weekend if it's raining.

Absolutely and I think he hated himself for caring about Jimmy so much.

When he calmly cancelled his doctor's appointment, that's when I knew for sure he was gonna check himself out. He'll be back via flashbacks, but he's a goner IMO.

Millions in the bank isn't. That money doesn't just disappear because you burned your house down.

EDIT: That's what I'm wondering in regards to Jimmy. That kind of windfall would greatly affect his character arc. I think that for the sake of the story at least that he can't get that money

Jimmy gets the money if he changes his name. It'll be in the will.

That money may be what allows Jimmy to start his own practice as Saul.

He's dead man. The episode was called lantern. He doesn't get up and run out. That house went up in flames quick. He's dead.

His story wrapped up entirely tonight...his relationship with his brother, with the firm and he finished by having a severe mental breakdown.

He gone.

I'm dumb, explain to me the whole jimmy thing with the yoga class

That was setup for him to be overheard? What's the point?

It also gave Jimmy a reason to change his law practice name to Saul. all those old folks were trashing his name etc.

That was the only way the old ladies would be friends with Irene again. He had to make them see with their own eyes that it was him that pitted them against one another.

Very sad episode. McKean is a great actor and nailed Chuck's role all 3 seasons. I have no clue where Gilligan's casting lady finds these charactor actors. They all are great. Lots of gut wrenching scenes. I always thought Howard would end up being good but that farewell scene was borderline sadistic

You could really tell Chuck was going to of himself early on in the ep.

He lost everything... The law, his family, his friends (Howard) and ex wife, and good sanity.

When Howard tells Chuck he won, you see the look on Chuck's face that he knows he's been outfoxed yet again, this time by selflessness and a great financial hit by Howard. The fact that he wound literally pay him out of his own pocket to get rid of him crushed Chuck.

This was also the creation episode of Saul Goodman. Jimmy will never be the same after this and this full sleazebag, soulless lawyer.

That is why I think the final season will essentially be a redemption arc and Saul will become Jimmy again in the Omaha Timeline. He won't care anymore, he will repent for his sins and possibly go down but he won't care anymore.
