And I'm not sure why I know this, but I remember reading something a while back that Romero kept a mustache, and refused to shave it for Batman, so they put the white makeup on over it.

I liked this about him. His backstory was a mystery. It made him all the more dangerous

I liked it, too, but it was a departure from the Joker, just like Tim Burton's take on the Penguin was a departure.

I was going back to the Joker's Red Hood origin here and being dropped into a vat of chemicals in the Ace Playing Cards factory.

Ah, gotcha. You kinda combined two separate Batman stories on me there.

I agree. His Joker role and TDK for that matter are about 50% more hyped than they should be because of his death. It's called the Kurt Cobain effect.

Bull, I'll give you 10% at the most. I don't give a shot about celebrities wasting their lives on drugs and don't care if one dies doing it, but his acting in tdk was amazing

Honestly I've never got this debate. I like the 90's Batman movies more than most people and I really like Nicholson. But Ledger was a better joker and they aren't even playing in the same sport much less the same league. Nicholsons Joker danced around and spray painted walls and knocked pots over. Whew. Scary. Ledger truly took on the role of a creepy psychopath and made it his own. His performance was supporting actor Oscar worthy; Jacks wasn't anything close to that.

shite, I misread. I thought it was best Batman joke ever and was expecting something about Batman giving Catwoman the Batdick.

Mark Hamil is the best Joker by far but for live actors I'd probably give it to Heath Ledger.

I thought the same thing

Heath Ledger and it's not even close. He really got into the character.

The Joker doesn't have a true origin story. The closest thing we got to an origin story in the comics was The Killing Joke and even there, the Joker said that he didn't know if it happened that way. Nolan paid homage to that by giving him two different origin stories that he tells Gamble and Rachel. Ledger's Joker was much more faithful to the comics than that of Nicholson.

And those who claim that Ledger's Oscar was given to him because he died, you are being intellectually dishonest. Oscar talk started surrounding him in December '07 when the first trailer was released. That was one month before he died. And if you look at the field he was going up against, his win would have been assured either alive or dead. It was a weak field for supporting actor that year and Ledger's performance was easily the most memorable of the five nominees.

I agree with this and I'm not a TDK fanboy. I've always liked Begins better, but Ledger was awesome, whether he died or not.

Neither. It's Mark Hamill. Sure Ledger is great (and certainly better than Jack Nicholson who was just being Jack), but Ledger is a very specific Joker and more of a sign of the times we live in. He also lacks alot of what makes the Joker "the Joker", like gag items and his canonical origin. This isn't a bad thing, because it would have sucked in the universe Nolan created.

Nicholson just isn't frightening to me and I just thought he was Jack Nicholson the whole time. Mark Hamill though has everything going for him though. He is the true essence of the character and lacks nothing of what makes the character great. He can be in just a goofy, reassuring, and hilarious one minute, but instantly frightening and horrifying the next. Plus Hamill may have done the greatest voice performance ever in Arkham City. This is exactly how the character should be: Major Spoilers

And as a side note, Kevin Conroy is also the best Batman.

I think you can make a big argument for each one.

Hard to chose.

I've always thought Nicholson's Joker was terrible. The Joker is my favorite villain and I have pretty high standards for him. I agree with those who say Mark Hamil is the best.

I feel Aquaman should feature more prominently in this picture.

Heath bc drugs, which started bc his role in that movie completely made him lose it, is a "dead" giveaway of who put more in it, and in return, became a better joker
