Spoilers

First 3 seasons of this show were incredible, season 3 was the type of stuff that keeps you up till 2am just having to see what happens.
I was so pumped for season 4, 1300 new planets! The space gold rush was going to be awesome to see and the complications coming from that, awesome stuff!

Instead it’s been a slow slog, focusing on ONE new planet where a bunch of refugees are just trying to survive and a new one dimensional bad guy is looking for reasons to murder people, how lame.
Then on Mars badass Bobbie is struggling with civilian life but then we get all this lame shite with her nephew and then her getting involved in organized crime, could’ve done more.

And I’m sorry but Holden and Naomi have no chemistry, I fast forward through all the scenes about their relationship

Man do I hope this is all building to something because they have so much awesomeness they could do and instead are focusing on refugees we don’t care about and relatives of characters that don’t matter

It gets worse.

For me, S6 will be make or break for the series. And I'm not going to watch it until the season is done and I check out this board's opinion.

That’s a bummer, this show has been so great because they focus on the world and the politics/aliens and not the characters. Now they’re going the other way

On the second book. Very good read so far and way better than the series.

I’m a little nervous to read the books. The characters on the show aren’t all that likeable, I’m worried that will be annoying in the book

Is it more about how the belters are discriminated against? I get so tired of that

Just finished book 5.

They are very well done. The show does not vary that much, but after the first 3 seasons season 4 felt like a long episode of Firefly

What the hell are you crying about? That was a solid season based on the least liked book (to most people). All of the books are great.

I felt the show had a noticeable drop off after episode 4

Season 4 was my least favorite but I still enjoyed it. Just finished Season 5 and I really enjoyed it.

Every choice you make as a writer, boxes you in, limiting what you can do future.

And that’s not a bad thing.

It just means you’re developing your characters, establishing who they are, and fleshing out your story.

Simply, the further you get in the story, the less flexibility you have.

The problem is that when you continually make bad choices, it’s very hard to write your way out of them without changing who your characters are or breaking continuity.

So I would be very surprised if they turn it around.

When did this become a Game of Thrones thread?

It’s just frustrating to me that a story which has shown the ability to be so deep, literally universe expanding, and action packed, spends significant amount of time on random characters well beings (like the refugees on Ilas all of season 4). The entire plot line of the colonizers, the big bad company guy coming to take their land, and all of the issues on that planet, could have been done just as effectively in 2-3 episodes instead of 10

Season 3 was the culmination of 2 major story arcs that had been building since the beginning. It’s one of the best seasons of TV I’ve seen in a while. I have a feeling The Expanse will never be better than season 3.

Season 4 was meh and Season 5 had what should have been some major plot points/moments to rival season 3 but it fell a little flat because you go from those major moments in the first half of season 5 to what feels like just set up for season 6 for the rest of 5.

Maybe on a binge rewatch after 6 is out it won’t be as bad, but on its own season 5 felt very uneven and lost momentum it should have had.

It doesn't get worse if you're into long, drawn out emotional drama sessions between a mom, her son and his psycho mass murdering dad.

Then you're in for a feast.

Characters are better in the books.

This is probably true, but book 6 was awesome. They could close it out pretty nicely and have people begging for 3 more seasons after the last book comes out this year.
