Just saw it. I thought it was awesome. Would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of the original. I loved seeing most of the original cast back together, and Jenna Ortega was pretty good. (I loved her in ‘Wednesday’. She seems to be poised to take over the kind of “spooky girl” roles Winona Ryder & Christina Ricci aged out of.)

It was not woke, for those who care about such things.

Edit; I agree that there should have been something more done with Monica Bellucci’s character. She had a great intro, it’s a shame the character was pretty pointless, kinda throw-away, even.

Saw it. It was pretty good. Not great. Lots of nostalgia. Felt more like the cartoon than the first movie. Beetlejuice wasn't as sinister.
I liked William DaFoe in it. I think Charle's ghost was funny.
Also Catherine O'Hara was great in it.

Why do you even post about it then? People like you are the worst but I actually expect that from a gump

I wouldn’t give it a thumbs down, but it’s also nowhere near a resounding thumbs up.

Way too many concurrent stories in one movie. Why were Monica Belucci, Willem Defoe, or Justin Theroux even in the movie? They literally served no purpose other than to take away from the main cast.

You had Michael Keaton. Just use him!

Also, you can hear the years of Xanax and cigarettes in Winona Ryder’s voice.

The story should have only been the dead boy trying to steal Astrid. And Lydia and Beetlejuice trying to save her.

With Bob as their Chewbacca.

The kid was definitely the better storyline that they should’ve committed to more. Although they telegraphed the hell out of that twist, it was a much more interesting way to go about it than Beetlejuice having an ex or having a wedding to Theroux. He also never really turned evil enough or made you feel like he was going to succeed

When they ended that plot line I was like “oh that was it” - and had the same thought about the finish of the Bellucci role and how the wedding is settled (both to Theroux and beetle juice)

Don’t think they wanted it to go over 2.5 hours but also didn’t want to cut any of the stories out so it felt undercooked in most areas

Bob was the breakout star of the film

He was probably the only thing I liked about the film. Well, Catherine O’Hara’s character was fun, but this film just felt, bland for some reason. I get that beetlejuice really wasn’t in the first film that much but he felt even less in this one.

You can definitely tell this was three different stories cobbled together and by doing so they didn’t do any of them well. The odd Spanish soap opera scene and callback was silly. None of the jokes landed for me or the audience at the theater.

For the buildup of how much Jenny Ortega’s father meant to her, when they are reunited there’s no tears, no real emotion really at all, I like Jenny Ortega but she’s the same person in every role. Her character doesn’t really matter.

The movie was just a mess for me and will be an afterthought I think. The film just felt like they were lifting from something they didn’t ever understand. That’s more on the writers but they didn’t add really much to the world and instead relied completely on callbacks, seemingly hamfisted in to a story with three different writers that had no direction at all. Tim Burton was sadly never the same after Alice in Wonderland.

Just my take, but it was just very blah.

Saw it today. It was decent. Would have enjoyed more Beetlejuice and less of some of the other characters.
Bob was great.

I liked that Bob and all his coworkers go their names in the credit at the end. I was expecting a post-credits scene of them still all running around in the real world.

I really liked it - the whole theatre really enjoyed it.

Just a super fun movie - I agree with the soul sucker. Awesome intro but killed very easily. Really could’ve left her out of the movie and it wouldn’t have changed much.

My guess is she’ll be back for the third one and play a more prominent role

yeah, she seems to be a great fit for these roles. snuck in a Scream line.

Keaton's age didn't really matter in this role. playing a dead guy with a painted face.

loved the Dallas ending.

Wife and I saw it this weekend. We both felt like the ending was anticlimactic. Sandworm pops up and eats them. The Bellucci role could have done a lot more. Definitely seemed darker than the first one.

My review:

OK movie but not the classic the original was. It leaned pretty heavy on nostalgia. I thought the first half maybe even 3/4's of the movie was well done but the end was rushed and anti-climactic. They created 2 villains and both were defeated with the snap of a finger without the main characters being put in much danger at all. I'd give the move a 6.1/10

I get why they didn't put the real Jeff Jones in the movie. However, if your gonna spend a lot of money doing a claymation version of Charles, a half bitten version with the disembodied voice of Charles, and reference Charles throughout the film, why not just hire the guy? Or better yet just use his funeral as the vehicle for all to return to the house, and never reference that character again?

Movie was super unfocused and not really that funny. 2 1/2 buckets of popcorn.

Supposedly I heard him and Michael Keaton got into it on the set of the original because Jones kept harassing Winona Ryder.

Saw it and enjoyed parts. Jenna Ortega has real charisma. Keaton was good. The emphasis on Catherine O'Hara's character didn't do much for me.

I agree with the premise that the central story should have been the Ortega story and Bellucci (although a beautiful woman playing a character with a power that could threaten Keaton) didn't add to the enjoyment or flow of the movie.

Maybe the standout scene of the first Beetlejuice involved singing but the singing and dancing in the chapel was so poorly done (with the exception of Ortega) that I thought it was disappointing. The choir singing (by kids who could sing beautifully) however was a good homage but already revealed in the previews.

Fun movie overall but poor flow and too many characters competing for storylines.
