I didn’t care for it all that much when it came out. I wanted Joker or some baddie I had heard of before, but man, it’s aged well. The Dark Knight is my favorite by a long shot, but BB moves up a little every time I watch it. Might be #2 on my list.

BB is actually better than TDK.

TDK goes too far away from the source material imo. In all of the talk about TDK being the best Superhero film, it's actually BB that should be in contention, not just defaulting to TDK because it's more popular and might be the better crime movie.

BB is the best of the trilogy IMO. Captures real feel of Gotham, great characters, love the darkness. Doesn't feel too long like TDK. Just my opinion though.

That’s definitely a fair assessment. Ledger was just so out of this world mesmerizing.

Begins has always been my favorite. I love the training scenes with liam neeson.

beyond laughable. Ledger had one of the top 5 performances of our generation. that alone overshadows BB.

Its easily the best of the Nolan trilogy. TDK is too overblown and self indulgent.

Wouldn't disagree at all. Great performance.

The first 40 min. or so are comic book movie perfection honestly. The setup is just great.

I'm not sure I agree. Other than Ledger as the Joker, my biggest issue is that TDK is more consistent in the third act than BB.

Don't get me wrong, I think BB is extremely good as an origin story. That said, the Arkham/train third act loses a lot of the gritty aspect of the buildup.

It goes from gritty, fairly well grounded story into Batman summoning bats on command and Al Ghul trying to fear gas all of Gotham. I feel like TDK has an ending that flows more naturally and consistently from the buildup.

But again, don't get me wrong. I really like BB. The origin story portion of it...probably the best superhero origin story on film.

Yep, it's a damn good film. My only issues with it are the fight scenes. Nolan has never been good at those

Budget:

BB - $150M
TDK - $250M

In general it depends on what you are a moviegoer likes.

More character development and discovery (most comic origin stories), or more action and large set pieces (the 2nd film). A lot of times the increased production value/budget can make the 2nd movie more effective and memorable.

The first 2 hours or so are great. My problem with it is it goes on for too long. I hated how they shoehorned two face into the film.

I would like to see your logic on this one. Aside from the fact that it grounds the Batman mythos further into our reality, it follows several graphic novel story lines almost to the letter. There are scenes in that film ripped straight from Batman #1, The Killing Joke, and Long Halloween.

This is a big reason why the back half falls apart.

It's a great movie, and Ra's Al Ghul wasn't even used to his full potential. He's much better as the late career villain who ups the ante on Batman after he's gone through his rogue's gallery.

Al Ghul was the villain that forced Batman to become a proactive superhero. After one meeting with Al Ghul (where he tested Batman to see if he was a suitable son-in-law), Batman gathered a team and did a full-on assault. Zero provocation. He just didn't want someone with Al Ghul's power running free.
