Barbie 2 in danger of not happening due to haggles over salary...

Warner Bros. is currently in a race against time to get a Barbie sequel up and running before the movie rights revert back to Mattel at the end of the year. However, David Zaslov is having a hard time pinning down Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling for the film due to their increased asking price. According to an article from Variety (linked below), Gosling is asking for $20 million to go along with profit participation. Robbie is asking for a similar deal it seems.
If they can't get a deal done by December, Mattel gets the film rights but Warner Bros. holds onto the intellectual property rights for the 2023 original. Which means Mattel can't make a Barbie 2 with another studio and would be starting the franchise over from scratch.

Plus, they both made $12.5M for the first one so it's not that big of a jump, wondering if the profit participation is what the hold up is.
