New horror movie written and directed by Zach Cregger of the Whitest Kids U Know. It’s getting pretty high praise. James Gunn said it’s the best horror movie he’s seen in years. I have tickets for tomorrow night. Pretty pumped.

Saw it tonight. They did a good job of not giving away too much in the trailer I saw. Definitely well done. Was not one of the scariest horror films I have seen as some have said, but very, very good.

I saw it last night. I agree that they didn't show much in the trailer, which is a good thing. It's best to go into it blind. That said, I didn't really like it. It wasn't very scary and when I read an interview with the director explaining the meaning behind the title (it's not what you think), I liked it even less.

Justin Long has some very funny scenes and I like Georgina Campbell a lot. She was very good. I hope to see her in more films in the future.

Agree on both. I wondered about the meaning behind the title because having seen it I still have no idea. I’ll look for that interview with the director.

It is being hyped up as being super scary and it’s just not. I think people going in with that expectation are going to be disappointed.

Obviously, he has great horror credentials after working on sketches like “Nail Gun!” And “The Grapist”

You shut your mouth or I’ll tie you to a radiator and grape you!

But seriously, the dude is pretty talented and has had a pretty varied career beyond WKUK. I have no idea if the movie will be any good. Maybe I shouldn’t have included the WKUK trivia. Seems to have turned people against the movie.

Yes, there was a point in this movie (those who’ve seen it now exactly when) that I thought, “wait, is this the same movie?”

Yep

Then I was like… I forgot Justin long was in this.

I continue to be slightly in love with bill skarsgard

I loved the first, like 4/5s of it. It really did a great job of setting up the creepiness and the pacing and atmosphere were awesome.
Not sure how I feel about the payoff…

That said, I have an irrational dislike of Justin Long, and I thought he was the best character in the movie. So I give it credit for making me like that guy.

It was fun. Just needed more backstory than it had.

I thought it was simply a reference to the old man since a barbarian is someone that doesn't belong to civilized society. But then the director said in an interview that he had to name it something and he just liked the way it sounded. Lol

It takes place on Barbary Street. That’s all.

It sucked. First chapter was okay and frankly should have just ended there. Then it gets preachy and payoff just wasn’t good. I got very tired of just re-using the same trope in every situation. Not to mention watching characters just actively become dumber throughout the movie for no other purpose than to drive the plot forward. Very lazy.
