Watching it with a nice home theater surround system is key. Fantastic.

I read his book. It was excellent...as you might imagine.
I saw there is a book of Shifty Powers' memoirs from the war. That could be an interesting read, too.

On one hand I'm pissed I never watched it sooner but on the the other I'm glad that I waited to be older so I could fully appreciate it.
The first time I ever watched an episode of it, I was in Wales in December 2001. The series had already ended, and they were re-running it on HBO. That soon after 9/11, watching it from Europe...It was a pretty emotional experience.

A bunch of those guys ended up writing books. Buck Compton, Skip Mularkey, Babe Heffron come to mind. Some are better than others, but they're all good in their own way. I hope the all made as much money as Ambrose did.

In addition to BoB, I highly recommend anything on WWII by Stephen Ambrose. I read most of his stuff, and could not put them down once I started.
D Day
Citizen Soldiers
Pegasus Bridge
Awesome stuff, and can be bought on amazon for a couple bucks.

I couldn't believe it when I saw and heard the actor that played Blithe on a Dr. Who episode. I was like WTF?!?!

That's a great book. I'm not sure why, but it always saddens me that when I read about the one LT who was shot through the neck taking the bridge. It was an almost perfect assault, aside from that one fatality.
