it's on MGM+ right now, smoked a bowl and watched last night. God damn. Just. Everything...Ron Howard's direction, casting, special effects, villains with real motivations, an all time Universal Studios ride

Great movie that I have not seen in prolly 15 years. I may need to change that because of this thread.

Just went look, they got Billy Baldwin and Donald Sutherland to come back lol. The star is the actor who played the deputy in The Crazies, I’m guessing he’s supposed to be adult Sean.

Axe is a pragmatic hero. It’s his fight against corrupt Chicago govt officials who are in bed with contractors profiting from firefighter deaths and closing down fire departments in the process to turn into community centers so they all make money. He also goes out of his way to make sure the fires don’t spread/rage out of control to harm the common man. Axe is essentially fighting an early Blackstone in this movie.
Deep down Bull knows Axe was doing the right thing to protect their department and brotherhood

Hollywood really tried to make Billy Baldwin happen in the early 90s.

In the 2000's, I went to Costco and bought a surround sound system after watching Backdraft on my old bosses home stereo setup.
It was my first surround sound TV system with a subwoofer!

First major movie about firefighting that came out after 9/11. They made a concerted effort to make it accurate but it's still Hollywood. Good story.
