As mentioned, Always Be My Maybe was pretty good IMO.

I also don’t know if Someone Great is considered a rom com, it’s sorta like The Breakup where it isn’t traditional, but the gf and I loved it.

No hard feelings with Jennifer Lawerence is pretty good &, one of the more recent ones which came out in 2020 I liked was Holidate with Emma Roberts.

The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds was funny.

Hallmark still does rom coms.

"Plus One" with Jack Quaid is worth a watch. It's available on both Hulu and Netflix right now.

Take out the teenager giving her nudes to the young boy at the end and Crazy Stupid Love is a great movie

thought Anyone But You was pretty bad in comparison to less recent comedies.

Audiences don't really agree you on that since it managed to become the highest grossing movie based on a Shakespeare play making $220m on just a $25m budget. It actually did so well that Sony released an extended version in theaters which is extremely rare for any kind of flick and is practically unheard of for a romcom.

Lifetime still pumps out content. Wounded girl returns back home to the small town, meets local blue collar hunk, they both dance around the fact that they're masturbating to each other for 2 hours, finally reluctantly hook up, end up in a $500,000 house despite both making $30,000 a year

And with it seemingly went a whole genre of movies set up to be romantic comedies but take a darker spin - like sideways, lost in translation, up in the air.

You can’t subvert our expectations of how these relationships will play out on screen when the standard trope no longer exists.

I just miss movie theaters of as the delivery method for content.

I think only two on your list are universally beloved classics.... Love Actually is one, Knocked Up is not the other.

I'm pretty sure both Lion King films did quite a bit more than that.

If it’s not a franchise, Hollywood doesn’t want to do it. It’s not really a marvel problem, it’s Hollywood’s obsession with obtaining IP that could spawn sequels. It’s just the easiest Pickens

Your question was rom coms and all you did was list actors who were in rom coms.

What are you really asking?

Yeah, it made a lot of money. There was a lot of interest. Doesn't mean it was a great movie. However, we all have different opinions. I thought the lead actress was absolutely terrible, but it helps they put her body on display as much as possible.

Weird how this thread is praising the movie, but there is an actual thread dedicated to the movie that is far more mixed and negative.

I'm interested to know from people who liked the movie if they would watch it again? Most good RomComs are pretty rewatchable, but I don't many of the newer ones are.

Here's one of the threads discussing Anyone But You.

Oh boy. It was not good. There are some decent elements in it that were entertaining enough, so it wasn't a terrible movie; however, it definitely is not a good one.

That is exactly how I feel about it, but it's cool if you think it's a good to great movie or if it made a ton of money.

I think the movie had great marketing. Especially the leads being sexy. I don't think it's the worst movie ever, but I was a letdown given how much interest it had.
